Supermodel Pocket-Pittie Cashmere needs a Home!
Ithaca, NY — Just in time for fall is our newest and most stylish AmsterDog–Cashmere. Gorgeous, soft and snuggly, and goes great with anything. But as much as this little lady loves her trends, Cashmere is looking for that timeless classic that never goes out of style– her forever home. And we would bet you a pair of Pradas that once you meet her, you’ll fall in love with her just like we did.
This 35 lb, 7 years young little beauty found herself at the NYCACC when her beloved owner fell ill. She loves the company of other people and other tolerant, social dogs. Cash is a wonderful pet and so easy to handle and to love. She loves to give and get kisses, is full of affection, and can’t wait to get outside for walks! Cashmere has lived with a 12-year old child and even her very own mama. Unfortunately, as much as her owners loved her, they were no longer able to take care of her and had only great things to say about her.
Here’s what her foster family has to say:
“From our short time with her, we can’t help but agree that Cashmere could use a human who knows how to show her some front-row loving. She enjoys the company of other pups, but needs a slow introduction. In a home with parents who’ll guide, teach and praise her, and where she can relax and enjoy life outside a crate, this mature girl is more than ready to learn some new tricks.”
Like all the greats before her, Kate, Gisele, Bella, this supermodel just needs to be discovered by her forever human. Let this supermodel steal your heart today!
Cashmere is spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped.
This Little Caramel “Dear” Needs a Home!
NYC, NY — Fawn is the cuddliest little bug! This gorgeous 3 year old, 33 lb pocket-pittie mix who loves to snuggle and give kisses had somehow found herself at the NYCACC until AmsterDog and a wonderful foster were able to spring her to freedom.
Fawn is very sweet – she takes treats gently and knows not to nibble, even when playing. She knows how to sit/stay/leave it and comes when she’s called. Completely housebroken, she stays alone in her foster home from 9-5 and is perfectly behaved in the home.
She’s got all of the basics of being the perfect family pet, but will need just a little extra obedience training for when you’re out for a walk. She’s energetic on the leash (easy to manage since she’s so small), but once she’s home she’s very mellow and calm. She loses interest quickly when throwing a ball or tugging on a rope, she would rather get a belly rub, take a nap, and binge watch Netflix with you while staring lovingly into your eyes.
Here’s what Fawn’s foster family has to say:
“Fawn rarely barks in the house, only when the doorbell rings…she wants to protect her humans against delivery men. Once the guest enters the house, she showers them with love. She adores strangers and will take attention from just about anyone, she’s very popular on our neighborhood block. Before she goes to bed at night she checks on everyone in the house to make sure we’re all safe and gives goodnight kisses. She starts the night sleeping in the living room keeping an eye on the front door, but she sneaks into bed to snuggle halfway through the night. Fawn is a lovable little pup who will fill your home with so much joy!”
Fawn is spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped.
Do you adore seniors as much as we do? Look no further – the most gentle, adorable, red-nosed boy is waiting for you!
Long Island (Suffolk County), NY – If you have a soft spot for those wonderful frosted faces that speak of experience, serenity, acceptance, and love, then look no further because Elmo, formerly known as Komodo, is a lovely 10 year old gentleman who was recently saved from the city shelter, after being found all alone and lost, locked up in a basement.
What makes Elmo extra special – and vulnerable – is that he can’t hear; he is partially or totally deaf. Elmo is curious, lively, and friendly; being deaf, he has to see you in order not to get startled and understand your request. He likes other dogs and he curious about them; he loves all people; a great leash walker, he will pull just a little to go meet a new dog or new person; he has seen birds, cats and squirrels when outside, and ignores them.
Here’s what his foster family has to say:
We wonder how Elmo was treated and what his journey has been like, so far. We saw him shake and look a bit lost at first when in unfamiliar places, taking a new car ride, being left in a new yard, or meeting new people inside the home; but he relaxed quickly once he understood all was good and he felt safe again. He follows his humans everywhere and is always looking to them for direction. He loves to sit or lay and look deep into your eyes with a smile, leaning in and resting his head on your lap, or longingly nudging your hand for one more caress. Elmo would thrive in a calm, safe home with a family who understand he needs his humans to be gentle and respectful with him.
Elmo is hoping for a fabulous home to make his heart safe and happy: a place to rest, be loved, be spoiled; to savor a little gourmet cuisine, go on a slow little walk together, enjoy a few rolls in the grass (his favorite new thing to do); a place where he can be a gentle companion and follow you everywhere in the house only to then find himself curled up near you at the end of each day. Will that be you?
Elmo is up to date on shots and microchipped. He in an intact male with a neuter-waiver from the vet due to his age.
Bella – 1.5 y/o, 50 lb. Brindle & White Pitbull Mix was Emaciated and Now Thriving and Hoping for a Forever Home!
Harwich, MA – Bella was all of 22 lbs. when she was brought to a city shelter at just 16 months old.
After several months of being nurtured in a loving foster home, she is now almost triple her weight. But that doesn’t stop her from thinking she’s still a lap dog!
Here’s what her foster family has to say:
Bella’s favorite pastimes are skate boarding and running on the beach. She loves to be active but she’s a great TV sofa buddy as well. Her ideal home would be one where she could thrive as an only dog, and have plenty of activities. She loves children and adults alike, and is fine when passing dogs on the street – just doesn’t like sharing her home with them.
Dogs seem to hold no grudges and Bella is a perfect example of that; she loves everyone she meets and just wants to be your best friend. Please consider making Bella your companion today.
Bella is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on shots.
Bea – 2 y/o, 46 lb. Brindle & White Pittie with a Puppy Face that’s as Sweet as Pie!
Rensselaer, NY – Meet Bea (formerly known as Bastet while at the shelter), a brindle and white pit bull mix who was rescued from the city shelter after arriving there as a stray and is now hoping to find her forever home.
Here’s what the shelter volunteers had to say about this adorable girl:
Bea has a perpetual puppy face and is as sweet as pie! Her walk log is filled with glowing comments from every volunteer that’s met her. She loves playing with other dogs, enjoys running laps around the yard and is learning to walk on leash. Bea likes to play with squeaky toys and to learn new things. She has a puppy-like curiosity about everything in life. She has a huge array of funny faces, each one cuter than the next, and has all the makings of being your best cuddle buddy! She wags her tail when you pet her, props her paws up to solicit more, and thrives on attention.
Bea is spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped.
Brenda – 62 lb., 6 y/o Pittie Mix is one of the sweetest pups you’ll ever meet!
West Grove, PA – Brenda used to have a family and I lived with my daughter, Snow. Unfortunately, her former family decided they did not have enough time for them anymore and they found themselves at the shelter. Snow was adopted, but sadly, Brenda has not yet been so fortunate. And, she was only at the shelter for a little over a week before they decided they were going to put her down due to kennel cough. She was scared, sad from losing her family and daughter, and feared that her time was coming to an end. Thankfully, a nice family saw her plight and agreed to take her in for a little while until we could find her the loving forever home she deserves.
Brenda’s foster mom says:
She is very polite, mild mannered, calm and gentle. She adores our 11 year old son and we even let her sleep in his room sometimes. She loves going on walks and never pulls on the leash. She’s fantastic when passing by other dogs, people, kids, bikes, scooters… you name it! She is a very good girl in the car and perfectly behaved when home alone, no crates needed for her! She’s affectionate, loves being pet and not bothered if touched or pet when eating. Yina would do well in a home with another dog of the same size and personality.
Everyone who meets this adorable girl with her beautiful markings and endearing demeanor falls head-over-paws for her. Won’t you consider making this sweet girl part of your family today and show her what a true “forever” home really means?
Brenda is spayed, up to date on shots, and microchipped.
Yina – 4 y/o, 40 lb. brindle who’s just a bundle of joy, love, and lots of hugs and kisses!
New Brunswick, NJ – Bad days just don’t exist with this little lady in your life. Yina loves to cuddle and snuggle but also loves getting out into the world and getting her exercise, especially some quality fetch time!
Her awesome foster mom gave us all the scoop:
Yina would do best in a home with another dog (she hit it off with a relative’s pitbull) or the owners are home often since this girl is no loner–she loves company. She loves walking and running but still working on her leash skills, which is the norm for any rescue. Being the smart girl that she is, she’s getting better at it everyday and eager to learn. She knows sit, stay, turn, lie down and loves to learn new things. And while this gorgeous gal may have been found tied up and abandoned it hasn’t stopped her from being sweet as a scoop of ice cream and as loving as they come.
If you think she’s cute in these photos just imagine seeing the real thing, so give us a call about little Yina now!
Yina is spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped too.
Ashwin – 1 y/o, 43 lb. Exuberantly Playful and Loving Boy!
Bayshore, LI — Step right up and set your sights on Ashwin the Amazing! This 1 y/o, 63 lb. caramel and cream beauty is our newest Amsterdog and has quickly earned the nickname “Mr. Handsome”.
All smiles and waggy tails, Ashwin is a gorgeous goofball of happiness. He is a lover of people and kids (over 8) and dogs big and small after a proper greeting. He loves playing with fellow pups, getting outdoors and can entertain himself while you’re at work too. He walks great on his leash and always does his business outside. He loves people as much as he loves dogs, happily slobbering his kisses and showering his affection. He walks so sweetly on the leash, and he never, ever stops wagging his tail. Ashwin is bliss on all fours – happiness waiting for a home!
Here’s what the shelter volunteers have to say about Ashwin:
It’s clear that Sir Ashwin has a little Bull Terrier in his family tree, and we know that mixed breeds combine the best characteristics of all the breeds. His slightly long and rounded nose is a complete giveaway. So, besides being uniquely handsome in his light caramel well-cared-for coat, he seems to be housetrained, walks sweetly on the leash, loves romping in playgroup with his peers, and when a small dog on a retractable leash ran up to him to say hello, he wagged his tail in greeting. In fact, he never, ever stops wagging his tail. Ashwin means “light”, and to say that Ashwin will light up your life with kisses, fun and the love of a lifetime is an understatement.
Get ready for kisses and to “LOL” because Ashwin will light up your life! All this guy needs is a family to share all his love and laughs with because this funny guy is as good as it gets.Don’t pass up the chance to meet this special boy today!
Ashwin is Neutered, up to date on shots, microchipped, and all ready to be adopted.
Nala Survives Hit-and-Run – Now Needs Foster or Adopter ASAP!
Oxford, NY (Southern Tier) – This sweet little girl, Nala, was abandoned by her family and was found by the side of the road, having been hit by a car.
Some kind police officers picked her up and brought her to the local animal hospital and, miraculously, nothing is broken, not even her spirit! Aside from some bruises and aches, Nala is doing just fine! She now needs a Foster or Adopter so she can leave the vet hospital and get lots of TLC.
Nala likes other dogs and is sweet to everyone she meets. She is up to date on all her shots and microchipped.
Brooklyn – Super-sweet 2 yo, 50 lb Blue-nosed Female Pittie
Passaic, NJ – Hi guys! Have you heard how Brooklyn is so in right now? It’s where all the cool kids wanna live – beautiful, really fun, and has a great vibe. So it’s no wonder that I’m named after it! We should totally hang out so you can see why!
My foster mom thinks I’m the best too:
“Brooklyn is such an amazing dog. She is super affectionate and loving, basically an oversized lap dog (2 yrs old, 50 pounds). And on top of all that sweetness, she knows commands and listens very well. She is a fast learner for sure and takes direction beautifully. She would be an amazing addiction to a home as the only dog and one with older kids for now. As she is a rescue, this beautiful lady would probably love another dog pal but she and our dog got into it a bit over a toy. We know this is totally normal for new animals and maybe a one time thing. Also, it’s an easy behavior to break with the right training. She’s just such a fun, loyal companion and one you will definitely want around basically forever. She has some allergies we think but again, coming out of a shelter we don’t know. Brooklyn will totally change your life for the better so a few sneezes are really nothing. We adore her!”
As you just read, I am a really good girl. I love my family and wanna hang out! Cuddling, walking, pretending I am sleeping while you guys eat dinner but secretly staring at your plate that I REALLY, REALLY want to eat but won’t because I have great manners and know you guys have to eat too – I’m down as long as I know you’re around. So come see why I am the Brooklyn pizza slice in dog form- DELICIOUS! I would love to be your forever doggie!

Zippy the Yorkie wants a home!
NYC – Zippy is a 20 pound Yorkshire Terrier mix, estimated to be 8 or 9 years old, who is full of love. His favorite things are going for long walks, playing with toys and balls, chewing on bones, and snacking on veggies! Zippy came from the ACC and shows signs of past abuse and as a result may take some time to come out of his shell. He is definitely a survivor! He is friendly with some smaller dogs, though prefers to be with human companions (probably not young children).
Zippy has been recently neutered, had his teeth cleaned, and is up-to-date on his vaccines. He’d love a yard to explore but has done well in an apartment. Zippy thrives in a regular schedule and loves to snuggle. He will undoubtedly bring lots of energy and joy to a forever home.
Gorgeous Blue Nosed PIttie Girl LOLA !
Rotterdam, NY Lola is a 3 year old 45 lb. Blue Nosed Pit Bull Mix who was found tied to a tree in a park. She was picked up and brought to the city shelter where her life became at risk. Lola is now in a temporary foster home and is looking for her forever home.
Lady Lola gets along with kids, but is dog selective – so a proper meet and greet would be in order. This 3 yr old princess knows basic commands and would love to enjoy the warmth and love a forever family & home bring to pups that survive the at risk list at a NYC shelter.
Lola loves car rides and to snuggle with you! From Lola’ Foster Mom:
“Lola loves to snuggle with her humans here with me and there’s always a dozen or more to choose from — is learning leash manners upon her walks — knows sit, down, stay — is kennel trained, but would prefer to lounge upon the couch/bed waiting for her human to come back home to her — has only ever had one accident in our house (compared to utilizing a spot in her prior foster home, due to a lack of being let outside enough by the humans there !!)
She is spayed & microchipped — loves and I do mean loves to go for a car ride — is an aggressive chewer (as she’s still a young 2yr old pup), but has not chewed anything in my house other than her toys — all utd on her vaccines — learning to eat her dog food (as she was fed mostly table scraps where she was and well thought that was her meal norm) — personally, she’s thriving here compared to where she was and I’m enjoying my time getting to know her/teach her what she needs to succeed in a furever home/family scenario.”
Lola is spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped too. Please complete an adoption application . Thanks for caring about a shelter dog in need!
Hercules – 6 y/o, 67 lb. Dashing Blue-Nose Gray Pitbull Mix
Wallkill, NY – Hi Everyone, My name is Hercules, a fitting name for such a strapping boy as myself, but to be honest, I am nothing like the legendary hero! I am a pretty laid back guy. Rather than go out and slay beasts, I would much rather cuddle up next to you on a soft sofa!
I do have an adventuresome side to me though! I’ll be a great hiking or running buddy, I don’t mind going out for a quick jaunt in the rain to take care of business, and hey- I like hanging around with kids, too! I used to live in the city, where I lived with owners who had personal problems. They think THEY had problems. I REALLY had problems once I got sick… That almost got me killed. Fortunately a nice lady saw my plight and agreed to take me in for a spell until I could find a forever home!
Once a city slicker, now I am enjoying the sunshine and fresh air life in the suburbs has to offer. I’m flexible though! City, suburbs, or country, I don’t care, I’d be happy just about anywhere there is someone to snuggle up with on a cozy couch and watch TV ( I LOVE TV!!) Oh – and of course – I love all people, big and small, and I will prove it by giving you lots of my wet, smoochy kisses.
My foster mom says I am very polite, mild mannered, calm and gentle, and I am well behaved when home alone. I’m told those are good things for a guy like me to be. I know it isn’t nice to jump on people, and I definitely know it isn’t nice to go potty inside the house, I always go outside!
I don’t care much for the company of other dogs or cats, I prefer to be an only four-legged family member, but I might do ok with another well-mannered dog as long as we are introduced properly. My foster mom also calls me “perfection” and absolutely beautiful in my striking gray coat. Just one look, and you will fall hard for me! I am really ready to go on my next life-long adventure, will it be with you? Please ask about me today!
Hercules is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.
New York, NY Chicharito, a tiny NYC ACC survivor, is just a little lover boy you need to add to your family. He is 6 pounds, house trained and he’s just adorable. He likes nothing more than to snuggle up on the couch and watch TV or read.
He’s definitely a lap boy and has the softest head you have ever felt. He loves to be picked up and cuddled and he will never pass up an opportunity to be picked up or cuddled with. He loves his mini tennis ball that squeaks and runs away with it to his cozy bed. He collects little toys and puts them in his bed. He has a very big collection going on at the moment. Chich -as we call him – is great at cleaning up little nuggets while dinner is being served and after dinner. Hire him today! 🙂
He walks nicely on a leash and likes to play with the little maltipoo he is being fostered with. Chicharito is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped.

Star is a beautiful gray 10 year old 50 lb.Pit Bull who was rescued from the city shelter on 11/11/2016, thanks to our amazing friends at Canine Kindergarten. Here is what Star’s devoted foster mom had to say about this super sweet senior: NY Senior Star lived in one home for 10 yrs. One day they walked her over to a city shelter, turned their backs and walked away from her.
This Angel of God is happy, sweet, healthy, a great eater, no food aggression, loves the car, adores my 10 yr old daughter, off leash trained, good listener, mature, house trained (amazing bladder), when left alone, will go to sleep, squeeze her and she makes cooing noises, good with big and small dogs, good with cats, loves all visitors and is always, always happy.

ROTTERDAM, NY; He’s a serious looking guy, but is proving to be lots of fun. King just graduated from Tall Tails Training in PA and is now all ready to find his forever home.
Charles, Richard, Elvis….all kings, just like me!! That’s because we all rule at stuff. Like me, I deserve a crown just for being so cute and cuddly. All I need is my kingdom, which in doggie world means a forever family. A really good boy that is downright adorable like me deserves it. A lot of humans like my foster and volunteer have nothing but royally awesome things to say about me. Like how good I am on my leash and that I love my walks, I am house trained, really like kids, know my commands like sit and stay, loving and playful. All I need is my throne, a fluffy doggy bed after a long day of fun and snuggles. As long as your close, this is one happy King! If you think I’m cute in pictures, come meet me and see why they call me King!
Shelter Notes: A volunteer writes:
Last Christmas King Clown was the adorable gift his family gave themselves, a tiny bundle of wrinkles and sweetness who wanted nothing more than to snuggle, play, eat and sleep. Except for a few (ok, around 45) extra pounds he’s still all those things and a whole lot of sassy fun besides yet this Christmas there’s a big piece missing from King Clown’s life…no more family. Which is where you come in! He’d be the perfect partner for an active, outdoorsy home and would love to spend this Christmas dashing through the snow (he loves the snow), capturing a ball and leaping back into the waiting arms of his lucky adopter–you!
Described as friendly, affectionate, playful and confident by his former owners, King Clown’s a happy young dude who loves to explore and he’s always up for a good game of fetch or tug. He walks enthusiastically on leash, seems very house trained and knows commands for come, sit and stay, though the latter can sometimes get a bit lost in the excitement of playtime. All this and he’s dazzlingly handsome too! King Clown formerly lived with very young kids but his energetic bounciness would be better suited to a home with older children, the more the merrier as he loves to socialize and is happy to spread his smushy-faced love around.
King, your future best friend! He is neutered, up to date on shots, and micro chipped.
Scituate, MA 02066 “Two year old, 47 lb. cutie pittie Adalyn was found in a park the day after Christmas, in the Bronx along with an empty water and food bowls. The finder took her in for the night but wasn’t able to keep her, but did tel us that Adalyn is a happy sweetheart who’s tail never stops wagging. And that tail is still wagging, one month later….. From Adalyn’s foster family:
Adalyn or Addy, as we sometimes call her, is a sweet little girl. She is approximately 2 years old,and weighs 47 pounds as of today. She has the most beautiful velvet soft grey fur. Evelyn from the shelter describes her as a tiny grey mouse and she kinda is. She is an excellent snuggler and seems happiest when she is curled up on the couch or the bed and she tucks under our arms and rests her head on our chests. She loves pillows and she loves plush stuffed toys and balls. She loves to run on the beach on a long leash and loves the park too.
She is very protective and will sometimes bark or growl at other dogs or strangers. We are working on making her more at ease in these situations by telling her she is safe and in a good place. She is a great protector and very smart and alert. Addy would like to be your one and only dog. Completely housebroken and once she does her business, which she usually does right away, she likes to head back inside for food, play and rest time. She knows basic commands such as sit, lay down, stay and be calm. Such a smart girl!” Adalyn is spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped.
For additional photos, please visit Addy’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!
Smooshy Faced Pittie Pup needs forever home!
Schoharie, NY This is Omar, an affectionate and fun loving American Pit Bull/Boxer mix. Omar is an 11 month old young boy in need of a new friend. Omar weighs 55 lbs with some room to grow into his big feet! He is mostly black with some white areas on his nose, feet and neck/chest. Omar would love to have a kid of his own and will play gently with a younger friend or tug rope and get rowdy with an older person or other dogs. Meeting new dogs is not an issue for Omar, but he will stand his ground if intimidated by a less friendly playmate. Within minutes though, Omar is happy running and jumping with his new friends like they’d been together forever! Omar’s favorite toy is a rope to throw around on his own or to tug with a friend or two. He will gladly plop himself down in your lap on the couch if you’d like, or he will make himself comfortable in his own spot to rest as long as he knows you are still there if he needs you. He really appreciates being rubbed on and reminded that he is loved. He will also sleep in bed, on the floor, in his crate or anywhere in the bedroom that is comfortable for him to lay, but he snores like a bear! Omar does have a bit of anxiety when left alone and is best in a sturdy, large crate so he has room to move without bending bars as he is quite the strong boy; he is beginning to adjust and is making improvements while left alone, however, if you have other friendly dogs he can hang out with, he will feel more comforted. He also appreciates a soft blanket in the crate with him so he can snooze while he waits for your return. Omar knows “sit” and he is practicing with other basic commands. He loves to receive praise and is respectful on leash with a harness. Come meet Omar and you’ll fall in love with everything from the way he looks at you to the way he trots around looking for a toy. Omar is neutered, is up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.
For additional photos, please visit Omar’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!
Ithaca, NY Looking for a calm, forever friend? Hulk may just be your man! He’s young, handsome and friendly. He enjoys walking and is great on leash. He will pace you and not pull, responds to verbal commands, and will work hard for just about any treat. He already knows sit, down, stay and leave it. He’s smart as a whip, learns quickly and is very eager to please. Hulk is friendly toward other dogs but is working on his playgroup skills. He is super house-trained and is also crate-trained. He keeps his crate tidy and doesn’t chew up blankets or beds. He loves chew toys! Hulk is just an all-around sweet guy who likely didn’t have the best life before rescue. The best is yet to come for this fella!
After being tied to a pole and abandoned, and then ending up on the To Be Destroyed list at a high-kill shelter, Hulk is ready to give his heart and his loyalty again, this time to someone who won’t betray him. In return, he will be your steadfast friend and most trusted sidekick. Hulk is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped.
Hey everyone! Meet DISCO! A jovial little fellow who, like the late, great humorist Will Rogers, has never met a man (woman, child, dog or cat) he doesn’t like! Disco is a recent survivor from the NYC ACC where he was given a stellar rating of AVERAGE (though there is nothing “average” about this funny little man!) He demonstrated outstanding behavior during his stay at the ACC, earning an almost perfect score on his behavior evaluation, and a favorite of the behavior staff! Read what a shelter volunteer had to say about Mr. Disco~
This uproariously funny little dude is such an awesome dog that we want to just write “AMAZING!” and trust that you will immediately come down to check him out of the Chateau Care Center and take him into your forever home. Should you need any more encouragement, he has the best ears (maybe ever), he is gentle as the day is long, he loves to snuggle, he appears house trained, you will get the fun of a big dog (check out his head!) with the convenience of a medium sized dog (think Basset hound legs). He is fantastic on a leash, appears house trained, and is friendly to absolutely everyone he meets. The behavior staff agrees he is all-around lovely, but who in the world could argue for a second? Do not miss the opportunity to spend your days with this boy and start your Disco party!
In his foster home, he has continued to behave in a most excellent manner. He is playful (would do great in a home with another playful, friendly dog). He is respectful of the resident cat and Chihuahua. Disco is aptly named, for when he gets excited, he leaps and twirls in the air, entertaining his human friends with his dynamite dance moves! House trained, and good leash manners, Disco would make a great addition to an active individual, couple or family. Disco has a zest for life, he will make a new family very happy! Disco is neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped.
Shrewsbury, NJ – “From the moment Mimi got in my truck, she was with me 100%. No looking back. She was looking ahead and was happy to come to our home. She travels well in a vehicle, not barking at anyone and just happy to sniff the air through the cracked window and stretch out in the back or sit up next to you in the front. Once home and secluded in a bedroom, as she still had kennel cough and we have two rescues already, I got to spend a lot of time with Mimi one-on-one.
This is not the “Brooklyn ACC Mimi” who somehow survived a staggering six times on the At Risk list, any more. She’s not scared or timid. She is eager to please, eager to love and eager to get love in return. Her big beautiful brown eyes are sharp and alert, not sad, anymore. She loves to eat. She’s gained 3 pounds maybe more already since she’s out of the shelter between her Temp Foster. She will now gain the weight she needs to so she can fill out a bit. Loves her treats! Loves real chicken, cheese and other proteins. She loves playtime and from balls to kongs to rope toys to tug toys she loves to chase them, play tug with you and amuse herself with them if no one else is around to play. It’s hard to believe she’s 7 years old. She runs like the wind when she’s outside playing ball! She’s very strong and has lots of energy but loves to relax and watch TV, too. Observed by a professional trainer at her Vet visit she said she had a great attention span and was very trainable if one chose to do more with her. She knows “sit” and she knows “no.” She knows her name. I’ve been teaching her “stay.” Her heart and lungs were pronounced strong by the Vet. She is house-trained to the max and can go at 9pm and not have to go again till 9am the next day if she has to.
She walks beautifully on a leash never pulling me once when on a real walk. Of course there are times she needs to stop and sniff. She’s all business when it comes to potty, especially when it’s raining! She’s done in a flash and then on a nice day happy to go for a walk or back inside to snuggle. And what a snuggler supreme and a girl with kisses to give! She loves to curl up against me when it’s bedtime and sleep keeping us both warm. She has been just nothing but sweet and loving to every person she has met since she’s been with my family and I. We all love her. She has enough love for a family of ten or just one special person. She’s also definitely a born watchdog and that’s the only time I’ve seen her bark-it was in the middle of the night when she heard a noise she didn’t know or like. Mimi is the definition of not just a dog but a Rescue Dog. Appreciative and devoted. Unconditionally loving. When she looks in your eyes with that devotion and it’s for you, you will melt. So tiny yet her heart is huge. God Bless Her.”
Mimi is spayed, up to date with shots, and microchipped.

Wallkill, NY – Sweet Peppy may be seven years young, but still has a lot of pep in his step, to be sure! He is a super happy little wiggle-butt who loves everyone he meets, and the feelings are mutual for this amazing boy! He is a very lucky boy, making it out of the shelter alive and into a wonderful foster home where he is cherished. Here is what one of the shelter volunteers had to say about him:
At around 7 years old, Peppy’s puppy days are over–now he’s got plenty of mature love to go around! Peppy stays very quiet in his cage and watches me closely as I approach, not sure if it he should come forward until he’s sure I’m taking him out for a walk. But as soon as he sees me getting ready to open the door, he runs up to the front of the cage, tail wagging a million miles a minute. This sweet, gentle boy seems to be house-trained, walks well on a leash, and has just a teeny touch of pretty gray on his brindle face– a truly esteemed gentleman. When I dropped Peppy back off in his cage after our walk today, he was so grateful for the chance to go outside that he jumped up and gave me a big goodbye kiss on the nose.
Peppy is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped.
Griffey – 2 y/o, 55 lb Male PitMix – Special Needs – Currently in Training
Frenchtown, NJ – Our special needs pup, Griffey, was rescued from the shelter and is so thankful to be alive!
Due to Griffey’s Neuromuscular condition, we are in NEED OF DONATIONS for his rehabilitative veterinary care and behavioral modification training in order to prepare him for a forever home. His stay at this facility costs $1,800. Anything you can do to help this sweet SPECIAL NEEDS guy is tremendously appreciated! Please donate at www.amsterdog.org. Thank you for caring about a pet in need! <3
Our Griffey is a real life miracle! And now, he could use just a dash more of that. Just a short while ago, this sweet boy wasn’t even able to walk due to a terrifying neuromuscular disease called Myasthenia Gravis. Myasthenia Gravis (MG), pronounced (My-as-theen-ee-a Grav-us), comes from Greek and Latin words meaning grave muscle weakness. It is a Neuromuscular Autoimmune disease that left Griffey without the ability to walk and difficulty with eating.
Thanks to treatment at the Animal Specialty Center of NY and his true dog spirit, he is walking around and eating. Griffey is in full remission and he is walking and eating like a champ! Griffey was rescued from the shelter and is so thankful to be alive! He was a volunteer favorite during his stay at the shelter, and with good reason.
Here is what the shelter volunteers had to say:
I don’t know if Griffey was named for the Seattle Mariners Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr., but I do know that Griffey has been placed in my personal Hall of Fame. What a great dog! Breathtaking in his gorgeous rust color coat, he’s super quiet in his kennel, goes potty the moment we’re outside and has lovely leash manners, sniffing all the good scents on our way to the park. A bit camera-shy it’s hard to capture a good photo of Griffey, so you’ll need to come see for yourself, or just take my word for it. His tail wags when I pet him, and after he warms up to me he loves to crawl on my lap, or that part of him that will fit, and give me sweet kisses. He’s the kind of companion you’ll find yourself having pithy conversations with: How do you feel about gun control? Which is better, Animal Planet or America’s Got Talent? Or perhaps lighter conversation such as ‘what shall we have for dinner’? and so on…. Griffey didn’t like either of my treats, will sit with a light tap on his tush, and is so quiet, calm and easy that I wish I could have spent the entire afternoon with him. A quiet listener, a charming companion, he will make you feel like there is no one on the planet more important than you. Come meet my Hall of Famer and make him yours.
He is further described by his adoring foster mom as “A gentleman who enjoys the company of people and other dogs. He loves to give hugs and kisses, and is well behaved when left home alone!”
Griffey is neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped.
Long Island, NY – Kiah is a 6 month old female tawny brindle American Pit Bull mix puppy that was left behind after her owners moved. A good neighbor brought her in to the shelter, where Kiah quickly acquired her very own fan club!
She is very active, playful and will jump onto your lap, climb your shoulder and give you an endless amount of kisses. She loves being on your lap and is a ball of fun puppy energy. Kiah loves treats and will dance to get more. Her tiny body wiggles and her tail wags like a little tadpole in fresh water. She has filled out nicely thanks to her devoted foster family, and they tell us she can sit on command and is very affectionate, too, without being needy.
Kiah walks well on the leash, her tail floating happily above her. She properly meets other dogs in the street and plays exuberantly with her peers in playgroups. She will let males know that she does not like to be mounted. A wise thing to do. Kiah is a pretty marble cake delicacy, a sweet and happy munchkin, a good puppy, all ready to jump in your life for the next fifteen years to come.
Kiah is spayed, up to date on shots and micro-chipped, and all ready for her Forever Home!

Rotterdam, NY – Bear’s story, in his own words
Hello, my name is Bear and I really am kinda like a 90 lb. teddy bear, if you really wanna know. I am a 2 year old Rottweiler Mix and I was rescued from a city shelter last spring and found a great foster mom who has taught me lotsa stuff, like Sit, Stay, Lie Down, and I love learning new things. Aemilia~precious 8 month old, 43 lb Pittie Princess!
Gaithersburg, MD 20879 – Aemilia is an adorable White and Tan Pittie Mix with the cutest rabbit ears, who loves to give kisses. Here is what her foster mom had to say about this sweet 8 month old 43 lb. bright eyed beauty!
After a month in her foster home, Aemilia’s true personality is starting to show. She is a sweet cuddler and vocal about what she wants. She shows no sign of food aggression, and she sits patiently while my 2 dogs get their treats first, but she gobbles her food really fast and then checks out the other bowls.
She does listen when my little hound mix growls her warning to stay away from her food. She is quite young and still learning her manners, such as how to take treats nicely, but is progressing well with this, as well as her leash manners. Aemilia loves to play, roll around in the grass and discover new things.
It is obvious that she needs some confidence boosting, for when we walk after dark, she is leery of shadows and crouches when she walks. She is learning to trust and I am sure she will overcome this fear soon as she is a very smart girl. Aemilia does honor a gate, but she doesn’t like her crate or to be gated in the kitchen, but treats and food bribes win her over every time.
She has had some trepidation with stairs, but to come up to bed at night with me and my pack, she will do just about anything. We all sleep in my bed, but Aemilia has trouble joining us as she does not know how to jump onto the bed. Most nights she starts out in a dog bed, but by morning she has figured something our as she is snuggled right against me when I wake. I guess the bed and stairs issues are a testament to her previous life where she had no experience with these luxuries.”
Aemilia is a good girl who will be a great companion for someone willing to help train and teach her. Her heart has no shortage of love in it and she will be a wonderful BFF to you and your family. House trained, spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped.
TINKERBELL, Super Sweet Blue-Nose Pittie, seeks 4-Ever Home!
Highlands, NJ 07732 If you’re in the market for some Grade A snuggles then say hello to me, Tinkerbell! I might not have fairy dust like my famous name sake, but I will make you believe in magic, I am that sweet. And just like Tinkerbell from Peter Pan, I bring love and energy and sparkle everywhere I go. I am a 4 year old 72 lb. blue nosed pittie mix who has so much to give!
My foster mom says “We absolutely adore Tink. She is loyal to the core. She loves playing catch and going for runs. She’s such fun and has great energy. She loves to gather her toys and prance around the house with as many as she can fit in her mouth. How cute is that! She is housetrained and will definitely sit for treats. She is also a huge fan of snuggling. She’s such a cutie!
If I sit down on the ground. she’s quick to nuzzle the entire weight of her head against me or crawl into my lap…she is so, so cuddly! She’ll prop her paws on me as if to celebrate our togetherness, then bounce away, she flops over for belly rub when she brings the ball back, and she always makes the softest eye contact (and gives the best kisses!)” As amazing as I am, I come from the school of hard knocks.
I was a mama dog and taken from my pups too soon. And then I was dropped off the place that no dog wants to go: the shelter. Luckily my angels at Amsterdog saved me and then my foster family reminded me how incredible people are. I am a happy gal now and still have a little ways to go from being sick at the shelter but getting better everyday. And I’m really excited about that because I’m looking for my forever home to bring all my love and cuddles to. I hope that’s you! By the way, I am about to be spayed, have all my shots, and I am microchipped too!
To meet me, please contact AmsterDog and get ready for some really nice kisses from me! Love, Tink <3

TEBO, Handsome 1 yr old Copper & White Male Pit MIx – Super Sweet!
Westchester, NY – Tebo is a 1 year old Copper and White super sweet 50 lb. Pit Mix with the most gorgeous green eyes, and we cannot say enough good things about him! Tebo has zero issues! Tebo loves to play with the foster dogs he lives with and gets along with all, big and small. He loves people, and plays by himself out of the crate when left alone for hours.
Tebo’s ideal family would be an active one who is looking for a super friendly guy to have fun with, play ball, and cuddle with. We think he’s sensational and if you meet him, you’ll think so too.
Tebo is 50 lbs, is neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped.
My name is Tony (fka Tuti) and I am a really great dog. Thanks to a wonderful foster mommy, I was saved from being killed at the NYC ACC! I am a medium energy, 2 year old, 30 pound pup who loves to go on walks. I am a quick learner too.
Five weeks ago I was not house trained and didn’t know any commands but now I am house trained and learning the “sit” command. I am not a great eater and my foster parents are still trying to find a food that I really love. I love to play fetch with balls and squeak soft toys but NEVER try to take out the squeaker!! I just run around the house gently making it squeak. I love Kitty and occasionally will try to play.
I think I’m dog friendly too. We pass dogs on our walk and I barely glance at them even if they are barking at me! I really love nothing more than to sit by your side. I have not been crated because I’m so “chill”. I will sleep on my bed on the floor as long as I can at least see you but I prefer to sleep in your bed. I will try to be invisible and tiny so you don’t make me get off!!
My foster parents think I’m a real charmer. I will bark and growl if a stranger approaches “my” people but then I’m great once I know you are not trying to hurt them. Groomer said I was”antsy” but I was just excited. I was groomed had my nails clipped and teeth brushed. I like baths at home and love to be towel dried endlessly!
I would love to be able to be around people 24/7 but I am not destructive when left alone. So if you think I would fit into your home, please adopt me. I would love to have a furever place to lay my head!
Tony is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped.

Shushan, New York 12873
Sweet Rafy, a 15 lb. Norwich Terrier Mix, was pulled from the euthanasia list and placed in a home that did not give him the decompression time he very much needed, and they quickly gave up on him. Now he is thriving in a home where he is given the space and time he needs and is doing so well!
From Rafy’s devoted Foster Mom:
Rafy is doing great…. He ate his breakfast in private and now jumps on you for love…. He no longer is worried about being touched where he can’t see ad he loves a pet on the head….He walks on his leash and does his business… he still is not real happy about the Boys but he does sit in his crate with the door open and watches them…
He is not ready yet for the Play Area if there are any others out there… That will come in time….So we have placed a open door crate in the dining room for him so he can hide if he gets overwhelmed by the Boys… They know he is here and since he doesn’t want to play with them they are now ignoring him and every once in a while take a look at the crate to see if he is there… He does take a stroll out once in a while and is now sniffing with his head out of the crate if he sees them… No contact yet, but that will come with time…
He likes my husband and will rough house with him…. Today we are going to put his bed in the office with Mr Bo’s bed and see if he will use that as his safe spot along with the crate….
He is a doll baby, very sweet and when he finally jumps on one of the Boys and gives them a run for their money I will be grateful…LOL
Thanks again for allowing me to Foster this beautiful little guy….He is loved….Pictures will follow if I can get him to sit down….LOL…

This is Chase (aka “Cheese”). He is a bull terrier or mix. He is 7-8 months old and is neutered and has a microchip and all his vaccines. Cheese is a character! He is very amusing and always has a smile on his face! This little dude is a fantastic puppy! He has incredible food drive and is very laid back at the same time. He would be the perfect companion dog. He will walk, hike and swim, he also loves car rides. But at home He is a couch potato. Cheese adores his one person but is very kind to all. He will just lay at your feet or sit in the chair.
He especially likes his morning routine of sitting on the deck and watching the hummingbirds. He is very good in public and has great leash manners. He is housebroken and crate trained, along with learning his obedience at rocket speed!. He loves to play and snuggle. He is good with children, older than 8. He also gets along great with smaller dogs and cats. He is dominant with bigger dogs, but OK with dogs his size, 50 lbs., or smaller.
A volunteer writes:
When I close my eyes and picture my ‘ideal puppy’ he looks exactly like Polo–a soft gaze, long elegant nose and that velveteen coat of shiny gold–and when I open them I find the real-life version has a perfect personality to match–gentle, humble, kissy, cuddly, playful and silly. What else to conclude but that Polo is a dream come true?
The best little Bull Terrier mix this side of ever, he’s rather timid at first meeting but I offer him a soft hand and a kind word to prove I’m a friend and before I know it he’s hopped onto the bench to share snuggles, smooches and doe-eyed little love looks with me. He may be just a baby but Polo poses so patiently as I try to snap photos in the fading daylight and even though his many tiny kisses show as no more than a blur on camera, I’m not about to stop him from smothering me in them!
The oohs and awws of passersby follow wherever he goes and other dogs seem to sense he’s not inherited his breed’s reputation for pushiness either, approaching with the same softly wagging happy tail as Polo himself. He walks nicely, takes care of his business in the street, listens to correction and comes when called, and his only small naughtiness is playfully jumping and tugging on the leash before a firm ‘no’ puts all four paws back on the ground.
Puppies need guidance and even the good-enough-to-eat ones like Polo take a lot of work to raise up right, yet the love and effort you put in will be paid back ten times over
Hey guys and gals!
Anyone looking for a roommate? I won’t have loud parties, will pay the bills in cuteness and love, and won’t eat the last slice of pizza. Even though I’ll really want to. Everyone loves pizza. Ok, maybe we can share it.
My name is FRANK, I’m a dude dog and yes, I am EXTREMELY cute! I likes my toys, sleeping in your bed, will let you take my toys and food and am pretty good around lady dogs. I’m new to the scene but if the awesome people at the rescue group like me then you know I’m all that and then some.
I know you guys are getting ready to relax this weekend but I am looking for a home ASAP and most importantly forever. We’re a FULL house over here and some R&R with you would be awesome. The cool people at the rescue group want you to know that “Beautiful Frank was found tied to a building, emaciated, though he has put on weight now. We love Frank and one thing people should know is that he is hearing impaired. That means he can get startled, due to his previous owner not working with him on this and all he needs is some cues and guidance. That doesn’t stop him from being a dog you could love forever.”
Well that was nice! And it’s true. Clearly I had a mean person try to bring me down but I overcame all that because I know my forever family is out there. I don’t and won’t let being deaf stop me, I just need a human who knows how to teach me things, us dogs are pretty good listeners as you know. Actually we are awesome listeners! So watch my video, look around your house and realize “This place could use Frank!”, I can’t wait to meet you for foster and hopefully forever. Love ya, Frank
Frank has a sponsor who will cover his foster expenses and adoption fee. We are looking for a kind soul who is experienced with hearing impaired dogs who can work with Frank and give him the guidance and TLC he so deserves.

BLUE! Male Weimaraner/Pit x, 18 mos, 70 lbs needs 4-ever home!
Gloversville, NY – Hi everyone! My name is Blue (although I am really more of a luscious honey in color- the only blue you will find on me is my collar that I currently don!) I am a beautiful blend of Weimaraner and pit bull.
Despite my stunning good looks, I was surrendered to the NYC animal shelter because my previous owners didn’t spend time teaching me good doggy manners. They didn’t take the time to walk me or get me the exercise and mental stimulation I so desperately needed, so like any guy with my puppy charisma, I became destructive in that home.
Everyone at the shelter loved me, I was well behaved and was able to show off my big boy doggy skills, like “sit” and “give paw”. My charm wasn’t enough to keep me off the dreaded “to be destroyed” list though. I got sick, and they were going to kill me for that.
Thanks to a wonderful lady who saw my potential to be an awesome canine companion, I was rescued in the nick of time. She knew how much I love all people (kids too! But because I am not so great yet with curbing my exuberance with people, I should go to a home with older kids that can withstand my effervescent personality and charisma). If you let me, I will sit in your lap and smother you with my glorious doggy kisses!
I am a very smart boy who knows sit and stay (I take treats ever so gently!), I am house trained, but I do like you to stay with me in the yard while I “do my business.”
My leash manners are improving, but I still pull with excitement when I see other dogs out on my walks. I haven’t quite fallen in love with my crate, I would rather be on top of it than in it, but I am learning that it isn’t such a horrible place to be since it keeps me safe. I would do best with a patient person who is willing to continue to work with me on these things so that I blossom into a well-mannered adult.
Some of my favorite things are frozen raw beef bones, going for car rides, playing tug with my ropes, and wubba kong toys. Oh, and when you have to leave the house, I would appreciate if you turn on classical music for me to listen to, it helps keep me calm.
I would love to be a part of an active family who can get me out on hikes, or I can definitely be a great running partner! If you have other canine members of the family, a meet and greet would be in order. I am charming, loveable and ready to be your best friend! Please ask about me today! Hugs and wags,
Blue is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.
For LOTS of additional photos, please visit Blue’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!
It’s about me, Gloria! I’m basically the next Elsa, Little Mermaid, Jasmine or Cinderella because my story reads like one of those ladies just waiting to become the princess they were meant to be. I might be a lady dog but I’m just as regal!
And if you ask my awesome foster humans, they’ll let you know how special I am. “Gloria is a beautiful 6 year old 49 lb. lady who is really playful but really loves to snuggle. She loves to play chase me with her pink ball, and loves her daily walks. We think she’s really fun for a middle aged lady!
She’s great with big kids but may be nervous around little ones because of how quick and loud they can be. She goes potty outside and will let you know when it’s time. She loves to be outside in a fenced yard, especially if her human is outside too. She’s a beautiful beagle mix and would be a wonderful addition to her forever family.”
Like I said before, there’s always a “right before they became a princess moment” and mine is that I lived in an abandoned building in Brooklyn for years! Talk about a tough cookie! But thanks to nice humans who fed me, I kept my big heart bright and even had my own little dog house. On sunny days, I would take a blanket someone gave me and put it out while the sun shined on me. And at night I would bring it back in my dog house to make my bed. (And I STILL love being covered up with my blankie at night!) Maybe that’s what kept me so warm. Or maybe it’s knowing my forever family would be looking for me and maybe that’s you.
Dogs make everything better and I want to be that dog to you! So hurry! I’ve been waiting a long time for my happy ending!
(P.S.~I would do best in a home with larger well-mannered dogs, no small animals for me, please!
Gloria is spayed, up to date on her shots and microchipped.
For additional photos, please visit Gloria’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!
KENNEDY ~ 3 y/o, 65lb Pittie Mix – Good With Dogs & Older Kids
Southbridge MA –
“Hi, I’m Kennedy, a 3 y/o, 65lb tan pittie mix who was saved from death row at the nycacc.
My foster family has nicknamed me ‘Kenny’ for short and I would love a nice quiet home with or without other dogs. I get along great with my doggie foster brother but he’s the biggest push over ever! I just started letting him share the doggy bed I stole from him on my first day here.
I’ve played with a bunch of different dogs, I prefer off leash introductions through a baby gate but I’m getting better at walking by strange dogs from a distance and not getting too excited. I can also play with dogs while I’m on leash if they’re not making a big fuss and I can get closer gradually.
When I first got out of the shelter I was skinny and full of worms so when I get something like food, a bone, or chew toy, I don’t want anyone taking it from me unless they’ve got something cool to trade. My foster parents have been working on me a lot with ‘resource guarding’, but I would prefer to be left alone to eat.
I don’t mind kids – I’ll be good and let them pet me but they have to be old enough to know not to take things away from me or run around screaming because it makes me nervous. I let you know when I’m nervous by licking my lips/nose or whining, and – just to impress you with how smart I am – I even let you know when I need to go outside by touching the jingle bells on the door knob! Speaking of house training, I’m great at that – I’ve never had an accident in my crate while my foster family is at work!
I’m well behaved and can be trusted – if my foster family goes out for a few hours, I don’t chew their shoes or raid the trash can!
I’ve been told I have a great amount of energy, I’m playful and fun but love to cuddle.
I do get a little nervous in new situations and don’t like being forced to do anything but with someone to train me and continue building my confidence, I promise I’ll be a fantastic and loyal family pet!
Love, licks and tail wags,
Kennedy (aka Kenny) <3
Kennedy is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines.

Yeow! What a good boy I am! Sadly my original owner wasn’t They’re definitely on the naughty list after dropping me and my whole fam off at the shelter one day. Diamond~Snuggly 5 y.o., 83 lb pit mix! Needs 4-ever home
Meet Diamond! An adorable 83 lb pit mix who survived FOUR times on the euthanasia list at the NYC ACC! She would so love to be a lap doggie and could snuggle with you all day! Likely a previous family dog, Diamond is ready for her new adoptive home!
A shelter favorite- here is what one shelter volunteer had to say about her:
Diamond and I are inseparable…. There is no way I can take a picture of her whole body or even her face without having myself unfortunately in it…Diamond is a love bug, a velcro dog, a bit anxious and needy of human presence. Looking at her, her rotund shape, her perfect coat, her great state of health , her dislike to return to her kennel, and her sociability, I know that she was a house dog, a family pooch, just yesterday…
Maybe she was left behind when her people moved….Diamond is quiet in her den. I thought at first that she was not used to a leash, going here and there on our walk… Once it the park, she was a perfect walker, pulling just a little, not forgetting to do her business in one stop. A “break” under a tree and in the shade was most welcome, mostly after a drink of fresh water and a snack. Not that Diamond needs more food. A treadmill should be more like it on her wish list….Diamond really enjoyed the park, the smells , kids running around and of course, my lap… She is a real tank who does not know her weight and size. Diamond has so much love to give and such a need to belong. I really love this big gal who will be a wonderful friend and confidant to the new owner who will give her the chance to be adopted and offer her a caring home.
Diamond yearns to be be a family dog once again, she would love to snuggle up on your lap and be your best friend! Please consider this precious girl!
Diamond is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and is will be spayed prior to adoption.

Chuck Norris – 3 y.0., 56 lbs brindlicious hunk!
Brooklyn, NY – A short while ago, Chuck Norris was sitting in a kennel at the NYCACC facing death at only 3 years of age. Unlike the tough guy of film for whom he is named, THIS Chuck Norris is far from tough, he is a total mush and is looking for his forever home! He is adored by his foster parents, and has made fast friends with one of their dogs. Just listen to what they have to say about this sweet boy!
“Chuck Norris came into our lives a little over a month ago. He was put on the euthanasia list due to him getting a cold and demonstrating behavior that the ACC deemed concerning. When my wife and I saw him we thought about fostering him because he clearly didn’t get a chance to live. It was a tough decision being we already have 2 other pitbulls. It was by far one of the best decisions we’ve made as a married couple.
Chuck having behavioral issues couldn’t be further from the truth. He is such a sweet boy who was just looking for some affection. As I write this now he rests his head on my foot sleeping peacefully. He is a great dog. Very friendly, incredibly affectionate, and very sweet. It started out a little rough. He had some adjusting to do. It obviously had some mannerisms that seemed alarming.
With some minor basic training he quickly learned how to behave in a home and really began to come out of his shell. He realized we are not here to harm him but rather care for him and love him. He has become overly affectionate and follows us around the house.
He gets along great with other dogs. He has been slowly introduced to my 4 year old pit. They run around the park together, play with certain toys while supervised, run into each other or they just lay side by side near my wife’s and my feet. Even when I took him to the vet he was very welcoming and friendly to smaller dogs.
He loves going for jogs in the morning, loves to put his head on your lap, play fetch or just lay next to you feeling safe. I’ve heard when you end up saving a dog they end up saving you. That could not be more accurate when it comes to Chuck.
To realize that how fragile life is, that he was a slow walk away from the needle is mind boggling. He is the perfect dog! If it was for my senior that doesn’t really get along with other dogs we would keep him ourselves.
He is a great family dog. However I must advise there are two issues. First he loves to cuddle. He enjoys laying right up next to you fitting his body into whatever opening you’re allowing in your current lying position. Second he is a bit of a snorer, when he is out for the count and comfortable the snores come and he isn’t moving.”
Please inquire about Chuck Norris today!
Chuck Norris is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and will soon be neutered.

SIMBA~majestic and gentle 61 lb, 5 y.o. pit x, needs 4-ever home
Hello Future Family!
I’m Simba and I might not be a lion but I am just as beautiful and dare I say majestic as the guy from The Lion King with the same name. I am not just a good boy–I’m a great boy. So if you’re looking for true love and a best bud for life, read on.
My foster fam can confirm that I’m awesome:
“Whoever adopts five-year old Simba will have a wonderful family dog. Gentle and friendly, Simba has a winning personality. He has met my other dogs and cats, even a neighbor’s dog, and been nothing but well-mannered. He knows basic commands, such as sit and down. He walks well on a leash and is non-reactive to everything, including wildlife. Simba is also house-trained; a couple of times work kept me late and I expected an accident, only to find none. Finally, Simba tolerates handling—his legs have gotten tangled in the cord on the patio, and he takes correction—Simba, down.”
Um, can you say total package? And even after being abandoned by a not- so-great human I am still full of love and dedication. I was made for being part of a family, not staying at a scary place for dogs and luckily I was rescued by the superhumans at the rescue group.
Just like little Simba who came out on top after a tough time, I’m ready to be someone’s loving Lion King. So hurry up because the love of your life (me!) is waiting.
Simba is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.

Jazmine! 3 yo, 55 lb, Sweet, Recent Training Grad Now Waits for a Home
READING, PA – Jazmine is a beautiful 3 year old, 65 lb. female pit bull with a rich caramel-colored coat and absolutely spectacular ears. A very intelligent and lovable girl, Jazmine is fully housebroken and knows all of her basic commands, including give-paw, and she even sits upright when you give her the command “Uppies” and will stay that way to pose for a photo!
She is a strong, athletic pup who loves going on walks, she especially loves to play fetch with a ball, and even prefers to have her feet cleaned after playing outside — a tomboy yet a true girly-girl! She loves to bond with her humans and is super generous with hugs and kisses. This lovely lady needed some help learning appropriate behaviors so she was sent to doggy rehabilitation and recently graduated with flying colors! Now, she’s waiting for a new Foster or Adopter so she can leave her training facility.
Here’s what her TRAINERS have to say:
“Jazmine has learned so much and is excited to find her very own home that can continue all the work she started. She has learned how to share her toys and space with others, play with male and female dogs, and walk nicely on a leash. As she loves to exercise, Jazmine would thrive in an athletic home that will provide healthy outlets for her energy by giving her long walks, hikes, or even run or bike with her! Now she is looking for a home with experienced owners of guardian-breed dogs who can provide the disciplined leadership that she needs to help her maintain her new stable, relaxed, confident behavior in a calm, structured, and balanced environment in which she can excel. A home with either similarly-sized dogs or where she can be an only dog would be best (no small dogs or cats). She enjoys playing with her canine companions and loves a good game of chase and some body checking that would make the NHL proud! Due to her size and activity level, a home with no young children would be best. Her new home should be a patient one that is willing to provide an adjustment period where she is given the opportunity to properly acclimate and learn the people, rules, pets, and new environment while building a foundation of trust and confidence in her new ‘pack-leader/s’. After all the hard work that Jazzy has put into working on her new behaviors, she is so excited to finally find a new foster – or preferably her own adopter – who is ready to start this journey together.”
PLEASE NOTE: The wonderful team who worked hard with Jazmine has graciously offered to provide training guidance and assistance to her new family throughout the transition period to help ensure her continued success. Help us reward her for all of her hard work by getting her into a new home ASAP!
She is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, spayed and ready to find her forever home.
Black Beauty Chante – 3 yr old, 40 lb. Lab/Pit Mix
Ludlow, Ma – MEET CHANTE – a 3 year old 40 lb Black Lab/Staffordshire mix with a shiny ebony coat, looking for her forever home. Chante was surrendered to the city shelter along with her 2 siblings. It was hard for her to lose her family, but she has come such a long way. Being the brave girl that she is, Chante has made so much progress and thanks to her devoted foster mom, she is now a happy willing to trust dog who loves being petted, hugged and even likes baths after digging holes in the back yard.
Chante loves going on walks, and knows how to Sit on command. She is fine with other dogs and is a gentle soul. She loves to squiggle on her back in the grass and get belly rubs. Affectionate and protective, well mannered, housetrained, and good with other dogs, Chante is a brave little girl who has come a long way.
Will you open your home and heart to her?
Chante is spayed, up to date on shots and micro chipped too.
MAX the Lab Mix – 5 yr Old Sweetheart in Need of a Home!
Bucks County, PA
My name is Max because I am all about taking it to the max when it comes to loving. I just need a forever family to give all the love to because a guy like me loves to share!
My foster says I am “an amazing dog who loves going on walks, being pet, giving licks and going on walks with my best human friends. He is potty trained up to date on all his shots and crate trained but fine being out of it. He is honestly the sweetest dog as long as he has someone to love and who loves him, a dog bed to sleep on and of courses kisses to give and get.”
I told you I was a lover! But you know who I’m not crazy about? Little kids. Maybe it’s because I got a scratch on one of my eyes when I was a puppy and don’t have the best vision in that eye but they make me a little nervous. Don’t get me wrong, little kids are so cute, maybe as cute as me, but I do love big kids and all adult humans. I really miss my sister so taking some time living with other dogs is necessary. I’d probably be best on my own, but with the right introduction and mindset anything is possible.
So I bet you’re looking for a dog to make your day and give you that “dog look of love” and that dog is me. So move at max speed and let’s spend forever together!
Max is neutered, up to date on shots and ready to find his forever home.
Star – 2 y/o, 60 lb Snuggle-Muffin Pit Mix
NH – Hey everyone, it is good to meet you! My name is Star. I am a wiggly 2 y.o., 60 lb bundle of love! Unfortunately, my previous family was unable to keep me, and they had to surrender me to the NYC ACC where I’m told I was a death row dog! FORTUNATELY for me, a kind family discovered me, and believed in me, they believed that I truly was a “STAR” and they wanted to save me. If you ask them, they will tell you that I am a wonderfully sweet and gentle girl around everyone I meet. I even gave their 11 year old daughter a BIG HUG the first time I met her.
Speaking of hugs? I love giving em! If you have shoulders to offer, my paws are there! I am learning that I need to have better manners though, and need to tame some of my exuberance. We are working on that!
I love snuggling and cuddling with my human friends, I prefer being in close contact whenever I can. If you let me, I will snuggle under the covers with you ♥ If I must, though, I will sleep just fine in my own doggie bed.
I am a good leash walker, but I’m pretty strong, so you might want to get me one of those special harnesses. If not, I will do ok with the martingale collar that I use now! Sometimes I may get nervous if I meet another dog on the street, but I don’t jump at or lunge toward them- I might just give a low growl to let them know I will protect my family.
My family is teaching me new things and I am learning pretty quickly! I know the command “sit,” and I am learning “wait.” If you let me, I will explore the counters, but I am told that is bad manners, so I am working on that too… I’m pretty quiet most of the time, barking is over-rated in my opinion.
I’m a girl with a good appetite, and I eat my food with gusto! However, I know how to take treats gently, and I have good manners when my human friends are eating their own meals. I don’t whine or beg.
Car rides aren’t a problem for me! I travel well in them. I will wait nicely for you (I feel sorry for myself and might whine because it is a little scary being alone), but I will be really happy when you come back. I promise not to destroy the seats while you are gone! It might help if you leave me with a chew toy or bone to keep me busy.
Things I can live without:
- Snow- I don’t like it. However I am so happy to come in from being out in it, that I will let my foster mom wipe my feet.
- Baths – to be honest, if I can, I will try to jump out, but I tolerate them if I must have them!
- Crates – I would rather be with my human friends than in a crate.
- Cats – I need a cat-free home
I really am a good girl, I prefer to be your one and only fur-kid, so if you will give me that chance, I promise to shine!
Hugs, kisses and tail wags,
Star is spayed, up to date on all vaccinations, micro-chipped.
RUSTY – Precious 3 y/o, 65 lb Pit Mix, Loves Other Dogs!
Reisterstown, MD – Hi everyone! My name is Rusty. I am a 3 y/o brindle pit bull mix searching for my forever family.
My foster mom says I am adorable, and she also tells me I am a great snuggler. I think that’s just because I’ve never met a person I didn’t love! Every time I meet a new person I run right to them and if they let me I wrap my paws around them and give them a big hug. If they don’t then I will try to climb in their lap and snuggle like I do with my foster mom. If that’s not OK then I just hope they give me a belly rub because that is my favorite thing in the whole world.
I love playing with other dogs, and my foster mom says I have a great play bow. My bigger Foster Brother Knight must think so too because we play together all the time.
But I also play with my little Foster Sister Luna. I have to be a gentle with her and also make sure I let her win sometimes.
Oh, yeah, Foster Mom says I should make sure to say that I am neutered, weigh about 65 lbs., and that I need to go to a home with no cats. I really don’t understand why, because I think they are really fun to chase, but she doesn’t think that is a great idea, even when they run.
Other than belly rubs and snuggling my favorite thing during the winter was to eat snow. But now that the snow is gone I like eating ice cubes instead as special treats. I also love toys, but don’t have a lot of stuffed toys left because as soon as I get one I eat the squeakers out and then tear them apart. But I have so very much fun doing it that Foster Mom laughs at me while she watches. I’d be really happy in a home with another dog to play with or at least one who could visit sometimes, and a fenced yard that I could run around in really, really fast, and chase balls and play fetch with my people.
My Foster Mom thinks I am very smart because I am so good at learning new tricks. Since coming to live with her I have learned how to sit, shake, give high-fives and low fives, lie down, roll over and stay.
She does say that I still need a little more work on some of my big boy skills, like housetraining, counter-surfing, and crate training, but she thinks I will learn fast if I have a fenced yard, and if there are treats involved, especially Pup-Peroni Training Treats because they are my favorite. But, she also says I take them very gently and she thinks that is good.
If you choose me as your forever fur-baby I promise to be your best buddy for life, to always love you unconditionally, to give you lots of snuggles and to greet you with a happy smile whenever you come home. Just love me and be good to me and I will try very hard to be everything you want me to be.
Rusty, your new best friend
Lana – 4 y/o, 42 lb. Laid-Back LOVEBUG is Searching for her Forever Family!
North Scituate, RI – Do you have a case of the Mondays? Well maybe you Lana in your life because she can brighten any day with her love and extreme cuteness. Her last name might as well be Lovebug because she truly loves people and life in general.
Here’s what her foster mom has to say:
This 4 year old 42 lb. sweet Pittie mix girl is sweet as a peach and gentle and loving as they come. She loves to be close, very gentle, low key and mellow. While she loves to collect her toys and bring them to her crate, she is very gentle about giving them up. She is housebroken and does well in her crate but so gentle wherever she is in the house.
She had some allergies which are clearing up now–it looks like something with chicken in her diet was the problem. When we’re outside, I trust her on the property because she really is a lover and wants to know where I am. She lives with my doggie Piper right now and they get along well. Lana is just so chill that she doesn’t really want to play as much as Piper.
She likes her doggie bed but this beautiful lady LOVES her human cuddle and nap time and loves the human bed too. Even the volunteers at the shelter teared up when she left them because she is such a sweet and awesome girl and would be an amazing addition to a family, and would be great with kids too!
She is great on the leash, has great manners, and is very loving and affectionate. It is unknown how she is around small dogs or cats. If you’re looking for a snuggle buddy, ask about “Lana the Lovebug” today!
Lana is up to date on shots, spayed and microchipped.
Edit: Recently Adopted!
Meet Bella & Milo! Two very bonded BFF’s that were surrendered by their owner to the Staten Island ACC. Thankfully, they were pulled from death row for an experienced AmsterDog foster family. These pups are currently living (and doing phenomenally well) with the children in the home (as young as six years of age.)
The staff in Staten Island adored this dynamic duo who LOVED to play with Frisbees and balls so much, they sent plenty of each with them when they were being transported to their new foster home.
A Rottweiler mix, BELLA is approximately 6 years old, apx. 90 pounds, up to date on vaccines, spayed, and microchipped. She is a girl of intellect who accepts being in a kennel, she is quite house-trained, knows “sit”, “down”, and how to walk nicely on a leash.
She is calm, friendly, and affectionate with her humans and other submissive dogs (this gorgeous gal likes to run the show).
A Black Mouth Cur/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, MILO is approximately 5 years old, apx. 80 pounds, up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped.
He is a happy, wiggly, goofy, and playful boy when he is with his BFF Bella. He does get along with other dogs (even pushy females) but he prefers the company of BFF Bella and his human companions.
Milo is also a smart pup who knows commands for “sit” and “down.” He is currently working on his leash manners and should be up to snuff in no time!
While they do adore each other and love to share their affection with their human companions and with each other, they don’t care to share their food, so it is best if they eat in separate settings.
This precious pair is available to be adopted and are looking for a forever home! As they are so bonded, they will need to go to a home together.
Please note: homes with feline friends need not apply, as they have exhibited reactive behavior towards them.
Western PA – How to describe one year old 48 lb. Michelle?
Laughing eyes, freckled ears and a picture perfect eye patch — little Michelle is totally adorablicious! That’s right, we had to create a whole new word to cover the off-the-charts cuteness level of this tiny livewire, she really must be seen to be believed.
Barely out of puppyhood yet clearly already a mother herself, Michelle may not have had the most stable life in her previous home, but she has shown herself to be a a beautiful, intelligent, eager to please and learn, Pit bull Mix who loves children of all ages.
This energetic girl would be great for a family or single person. Her foster mom thinks Michelle is so smart and gentle, she thinks she could be a therapy dog. Michelle just loves being around people and is equally happy to be lying at your feet or sitting on your lap.
Michelle is energetic, so her ideal home would be one with a jogger or with a fenced in yard, so she can run to her heart’s content. Michelle could be the beautiful, funny, affectionate pet you’ve always wanted.
Michelle is spayed, up to date on shots, microchipped and fully vetted.
Boston Suburbs – Billerica, MA – Meet ROSE, formerly known as Diamond, a very affectionate and playful 10 year old Pit Bull/Lab Mix who is 60 lbs. of love.
Rose once belonged to a great family, who sadly, were evicted and Rose found herself homeless and surrendered to a city shelter. A loving foster home stepped up for her, but it is not the right home for Rose, as she and the resident dogs do not get along and we are avidly seeking a new home for this special girl.
Here is what Rose’s foster mom tells us about her:
“Rose likes to give TONS of kisses and just wants to be your best friend. She is dog selective, and would prefer to be your one and only girl. Rose is very smart and likes to be right by your side, whether it be jogging, swimming, pulling weeds from the garden, or watching TV.
Rose ADORES KIDS, and gets so very excited to see the little boy in her foster home get up in the morning and begin the day with activities. Whatever the agenda, Rose thinks it’s a great idea. We’re going for a ride? Great idea! We’re going to take a nap? Great idea!
This is a girl who will connect with your heart and soul and really be your very best friend. Please give Rose a chance to have a family of her own to love!”
Rose is up to date on shots and microchipped, housebroken and trained. Rose has a sponsor who is willing to cover her adoption fee and the first three months of food and a wellness vet visit too!
Your chance to make the world a better, brighter place is calling – have you hugged a senior dog today?
Diamyn – 5 y/o, 65lb. Blue-Nose Gray Pittie Girl LOVES dogs, cats, and people!
Chicopee, MA – Diamyn is a great girl! She loves EVERYONE – other dogs, large and small, cats, people.
She is a bit shy, so needs a moment to take everything in and warm up. Housetrained, crate trained, great on leash. She can be a little rambunctious once she gets playing, so better with adult-only home.
Here’s what her foster mom has to say:
Diamyn gets along well with everyone. She walks nicely on the leash, is crate trained and great in the car. She has sensitive skin but has done well on a good grain-free diet. A quiet home would be ideal, as loud noises scare her. She would love to have another dog for company; she can play pretty rough, so a bigger, easygoing boy would probably be best. She gets a little rambunctious with the kitties from time to time, but overall does well with them. She is very well behaved at the vet and groomer. Although she doesn’t jump on the furniture, she does like to lay close to you on the floor and follow you around. Her night routine- she goes out for her last walk, comes in and trots right down the hall and puts herself to bed in her crate!!
Other notes: Prior to arriving at the shelter, Diamyn lived previously with five adults, two children, and one senior. She is reported to get along well with children but needs time to warm up to strangers. She has lived with and got along well with other small animals.
Diamyn is currently with foster in Chicopee, MA (transport is available).
Gregory – 4 y/o, 60 lb. Oreo Cookie Pit Mix Sweeheart! Likes other Dogs!
Buffalo, NY – How do you spell fun? G-r-e-g-o-r-y! This sweet “oreo cookie” acts like he doesn’t have a care in the world and if it weren’t for his limping walk you’d never guess he was suffering from a leg injury.
This 58 lb. American Staffordshire Terrier Mix leaps, he bounds, he pulls on the leash and chases a ball with all the playful abandon of a puppy! He’s clearly had some training as he takes care of his business promptly, comes when called and mouths treats gently from my fingers.
Greg is a real character and if you’ve been searching for a pet with a larger-than-life personality, a generous heart and the face of an angel then look no further.
Greg loves to be the center of attention and as soon as I let him off leash he follows me to the bench and hops his front paws onto my lap for some loving, perfectly happy to let me pet him all over (including his sore leg) and especially enjoying a good butt rub as his handsome face breaks into a big ol’ smile of pure bliss.
Fellow dogs are met with enthusiastic friendship and tail wags and he’s eager to get close to the hallway cats too, though whether as friend or foe it’s hard to tell.
Gregory is neutered, up to date on shots, microchipped and is so looking forward to meeting his new human….could that be you?
Good Vibes Can Be Yours!
Manchester, CT – Super sweet Pittie Mix Vibes found himself at a city shelter with little hope of getting out, until an angel from CT stepped up to foster him. Here is what she has to say about this adorable 75 lb. copper colored snuggle bug.
“Vibes can be shy at first but warms up very quickly. This 6 year old boy is extremely loyal and wants nothing more than to be by your side.
He enjoys car rides, romping around in the yard and playing fetch. He is very lively and will look at you with the most adorable pittie smile you have ever seen!
Vibes enjoys having his chin and neck scratched and could sit there for hours! When he is ready to snuggle he has to have his blanket which he will nuzzle until he falls asleep. During the day he enjoys hanging out on the couch with a bone or his kong.
Due to his size, Vibes would do best in a home with children over the age of 10. He loves to play with his foster siblings. In November, Vibes had bilateral entropion surgery. The surgery was a success and he now can fully see. He will need daily eye drops for the rest of his life to keep his eyes moist. The eye drops are inexpensive and he sits very well while you put them in his eyes. Vibes will definitely keep you smiling with his adorable personality!”
Vibes is neutered, up to date on shots, fully vetted and microchipped and comes with his very own snuggle blankie.
Barko was rescued on 1/24/17 from the city shelter where he was a scared little boy. Not anymore! Barko is now thriving with his dedicated foster moms who adore him and are getting him ready for his Forever Home, by getting him neutered, teaching him manners, and letting him know that he is loved. Stay tuned for more info on Barko!
For additional photos, please visit Barko’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!
Meet Carmine and you’ll say “all mine”. He’s the cutest little man with an orange brindle coat that feels like velvet. There are ripples of wrinkles that gather on his forehead when he looks at you with that quizzical look as he cocks his head to the side. Your heart melts. He has the calmness of an adult indoors but runs exuberantly outside like the streamlined athlete he is. Being young and athletic he would be that perfect running partner that never calls to cancel. Be on your toes! He’s on the ready and has a zest for life that’s contagious. And oh so affectionate — of course, he’s a pit. He has the face and the eyes of a Rhodesian Ridgeback along with the breed’s confidence and loyalty to those who love and care for him.
He is bright and curious, picking up leash manners in a day and commands associated with walking like a fine young gentleman. He is very strong, weighs 60 pounds and only one year of age so it’s imperative that these manners are reinforced. He is perfectly house trained, neutered and ready to be “all yours” — your friend, protector and companion for life.
Shelter Notes: Handsome Carmine came to us on Thanksgiving Day, brought by two policemen who had only good things to say about him. What a gorgeous dog, dressed in a shiny tiger brindle coat wrapping a well built body softened by attractive almond shaped eyes. Carmine was friendly then, accepting caresses and even a treat. He has remained the same, two days after our first meeting.
Spirit~38 lb, 2 y.o. Pocket Pittie! Needs Forever Home!
Union City, NJ
Hi everyone! Meet SPIRIT~ and adorable little 38 pound sweetie who was recently rescued from Death Row at the Brooklyn ACC!
She has arrived safely to her foster home and is settling in nicely! Here is what her foster mom has to say about her~
She is very kind and super loving. She has a nice balance of energy, she loves to play fetch, but also likes to lounge around the house too! She is very well housebroken and well mannered when left alone (all my shoes are untouched!) She is tidy with her food bowl 🙂
Spirit needs leash work, especially when she is around other dogs. She isn’t aggressive, but she can become excitable. With time and training (which of course EVERY dog needs!) this little girl will continue to blossom into a very wonderful little companion. She is so happy around everyone she meets! When she is out on the street, everyone wants to greet her!
Spirit would love to meet you today!
Spirit is up to date on vaccines, microchipped and scheduled for spay.
For photos, please visit Spirit’s Facebook page.
Pocket Pittie Alert! MAMA loves kids! Urgently needs new home!
MAMA is a 4 year old 38 lb. pit mix who was used for breeding and then discarded….Their loss is our gain, because Mama is a wonderful dog! Mama loves kids and all people! She can be dog selective, so a solo dog home is ideal for her.
She is snuggly, sweet and playful! Mama is spayed, up to date on shots, and micro chipped too. Please consider fostering or adopting this very deserving dog!
Stay tuned for more information about MAMA!
For photos, please visit Mama’s Facebook page.
My name is Hercules, a fitting name for such a strapping boy as myself, but to be honest, I am nothing like the legendary hero! I am a pretty laid back guy. Rather than go out and slay beasts, I would much rather cuddle up next to you on a soft sofa and cuddle up! I do have an adventuresome side to me though! I’ll be a great hiking or running buddy, I don’t mind going out for a quick jaunt in the rain to take care of business, and hey- I like hanging around with kids, too!
I used to live in the city, where I lived with pet owners who had personal problems.
City, suburbs, or country, I don’t care, I’d be happy just about anywhere there is someone to snuggle up with on a cozy couch and watch TV ( I LOVE TV!!) Oh- and of course, I love all people, big and small- I will prove it by giving you lots of my wet, schmooshy kisses
My foster mom also calls me “perfection” and absolutely beautiful in my striking grey coat. Just one look, and you will fall hard for me! I am really ready to go on my next life-long adventure, will it be with you?
Please ask about me today!
Hercules is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped!
Ossining, NY Hi Everybody! It’s good to meet you! My name is Max, and I’m a 4 year old, 60 lb american staffie mix. I once lived with a family with two adults, a teenager and a 9 year old. I was a good family dog, played gently with the kids, and never met a stranger I didn’t like. Unfortunately, a member of my family started having allergies, and they didn’t find me a new home. Instead, I was surrendered to the Brooklyn ACC where I was almost killed, despite acing my behavior evaluation! Luckily, a kind woman from Massachusetts saw what a great boy I was, and knew I had definite rock-star family dog potential, and she saved me from my doom! If you ask my foster family, they will tell you that I love being with other people! I like everyone I meet, and can we just say, the feeling is mutual! I’m not a fan of being alone, but I am well-behaved if you need to be away. Not only do I like all people, I have met other dogs and I am very respectful of them (I’m not sure how I would do around cats, since I haven’t met any yet!). I don’t get on furniture unless I am invited up (how’s that for a gentleman?). I’m pretty active too! I love playing with balls, Frisbee’s, anything you can toss around, I will be there to join in the fun! I know how to be gentle when I play with tug toys too! I promise not to bite your hand! While I do love the toys, I know it is polite to share, so I don’t hog them. Speaking of sharing, I don’t mind sharing treats with other dogs, might I add that I do take my treats oh so gently. I do have a grrreeeaat appetite- and will eat just about anything you give me (even my veggies!). I do suffer from skin allergies, so my foster family is trying different foods to see what works best for me. As you can see, I am a pretty cool, laid back guy and will be thrilled to have a forever family of my own. Will that be with you? I think whomever decides to take me in will be pretty lucky to have such a nice guy like me in their lives! Please ask about me today! You will be glad you did.
Max is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped!
For additional photos, please visit Max’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!
Mountainville, NY Silk is a splendid girl who exudes sweetness, sophistication, and plenty of spunk! Thanks to a wonderful foster family, this very special girl was given a second chance at life after her owner became too sick to care for her (and she and her housemate both found themselves on the at risk list at the NYC ACC).
At the shelter, Silk became a fast favorite of staff and volunteers as she was all about the snuggles and cuddles! Read what a volunteer had to say of her:
“Silk is affectionate to the extreme. As we walked, she would whimper and jump up to be petted. It was quirky, yet endearing. Once I started petting her she would sit right down. She begged for constant petting during the whole walk. She’s most definitely a “people-dog!”
Not only is she a people dog, but she lived in harmony with her pit mix housemate, with whom she enjoyed rough and rowdy play and doggie cuddles. Silk has been around children of all ages, and loves playing with them, however, she can be exuberant and may unintentionally knock over a smaller child.
Silk LOVES toys, hey, who doesn’t? She is a fan of tennis balls, and if she can find one, appreciates a good stick she can carry around and gnaw upon. She is overall well-mannered on leash (unless she sees someone she really wants to meet!) and she loves to explore. She doesn’t guard her things, and takes treats very gently. Silk is house-trained and crate-trained!
Silk would love to have a playful, friendly canine partner, as we sense she misses her former housemate, and the current resident dogs with whom she is staying don’t appreciate her rambunctious style of play.
Silk is a svelte 60 pounds and approximately 14 months young. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccinations.
For additional photos, please visit Silk’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!
Ivy: 2 yo, 49 lb Adorable Rabbit-Eared Pit Needs Forever Home!
Palmerton, PA ~~~ IVY is very proud to tell you that she has GRADUATED from a 2 week training program at Tall Tails Training! www.talltailstraining.com Check out her training video and see just how smart and attentive she is: ( coming soon……) Good Girl, Ivy!! Ivy has her own website! https://sites.google.com/site/findivysforeverhome/home To meet her, please contact AmsterDog and we will put you in touch with her awesome foster mom. <3
My name is Ivy, like Ivy League because I am basically the Harvard of dogs! All I need is someone to be smart enough to see a honey bunny like me and be my forever family! My foster mama is a big fan of mine and wants you to know that “Ivy is a prize! I was a little nervous meeting her for the first time but boy was I surprised with how amazing she is. She entered the house with curiosity but was no fuss.
It’s clear she is a well-mannered girl! I knew when I saw her posting about how she lived happily with children, but her family moved to a place that could not take her, so they decided to drop her off at a high kill shelter. I knew that I had to do something to save this sweet girl. I had no idea how sweet she would be! She is affectionate, enjoys being close to people, walks well on a leash and doesn’t seem to be bothered by much at all!” Talk about a good recommendation!
What my awesome foster mama said is very true! I love being with people, don’t mind other dogs or animals when I see them on the street, am well behaved and basically awesome! Nothing can make a person happier than having a dog and think making me part of your forever family would make you jump for joy. And me too! Please ask about me today!
Ivy is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped!
PEBBLES, Death Row Survivor, awaits surgery
Beautiful Sweet PEBBLES is safe and sound in her new foster home where she awaits surgery for the mass on her leg, which we are hoping will be this Friday. In the meantime, she is soaking up all the TLC she is getting from awesome foster mama Sally.
We are forever grateful to her and to all those who pledged for her much needed surgery. Pebbles is a throw away mama, and when she has her mass removed, she will also be spayed, so she will never be used for breeding again. To donate to her ongoing medical care, please go to www.amsterdog.org. Any amount is appreciated!
Will keep you posted on our sweet girl Pebbs!
A volunteer writes:
Pebbles isn’t just another pretty face. She’s a gorgeous, slightly chunky mama who seems to have been fed with love. Showing off great leash manners, she’s a quiet girl who took care of her big business the moment we were out the door, but waited to find some dirt in which to pee. How cute are her potty habits?!
She’s soft, gentle and easy to be with, but a bit distracted as she figures out her new surroundings. Pebbles ignored other dogs we passed, and showed no reaction to barking dogs. We took a water break in the park, Pebbles gently lapping up some water from a bowl. We snuggled for a bit before we both got too hot for close contact.
Off leash in the yard, Pebbles wagged her tail gently as other dogs passed, but in her first group play session, she was a bit nervous. She seems to have had a home in which she was loved, and is now looking for a new person or family to take care of. Past the crazy puppy stage, she’s at that perfect age where love, walks, and easy play are what will make her a happy girl. Come meet her today.
Another volunteer writes:
Even if she didn’t have the world’s most adorable face, I’d still be head-over-heels for this sweet girl because of her beautiful, peaceful, radiant soul. Just look into her eyes and you can see it for yourself…
Pebbles is 100 percent pure GOOD DOG.
I can’t think of a better companion for spending warm summer days lazing in the shade or cold winter nights nestled in each others’ arms. She’s so loving, so obedient and attentive. And talk about gentle!
Though a little shy at first, Pebbles warms up very quickly and is beyond thrilled to respond to a ‘come’ command by hopping two petite paws onto my lap for cuddles and kisses. She enjoys chasing a tennis ball but prefers to have me fetch it back for her, and her mouth is so soft that she never even really holds onto her toys, and takes treats from my hand with the lightest possible touch.
Family pets simply don’t come any more wonderful than this lovable chunky monkey.
In a calm, dog-savvy home, she’s going to shine brightly for many happy years to come. Pebbles is still waiting, but why are you? Scoop her up and take home a lifetime supply of snuggles today!!!
For photos, please visit Pebble’s Facebook page.
Manchester, NH – Sweet white/brindle, 45lb. Kandahar loves everyone, fur lined or not!
She was recently rescued from the euthanasia list from NYCACC, thanks to a wonderful family who offered up their home to her. She is a VERY HAPPY girl with a lot of energy, of course, since she is still just a baby at only 10 months.
She loves loves cats, kids and other dogs!
Her foster parents report that she is doing well in a crate, she quiets right down and enjoys her toys and chews. She is currently working on her leash manners, but she is very smart and learns quickly.
This sweetie has so much spunk, energy and spirit and will be the perfect loving companion for just about any family!
Kandahar is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines.
“Hi, I’m Coast! I am a 2 year old petite, lady-like and dainty pit mix (so I’m told), that weighs about 55 lbs. My foster family says I appear to be mixed with Dalmatian since my pattern of black spots and white fur is so prominent. Or, at least I *look* more like a Dalmatian, they say.
I’m not the type to boast as I’m typically very quiet and humble, but I’m told that I’m a little doll and the *perfect* family pet. I think that’s because I’m house-trained, crate trained, I have good manners (I know – and respond – to commands such as sit, down, come, stay), I walk gently on the leash, I sit like a lady in the car, I hardly ever bark, and most of all, I LOVE other dogs, and kids, too!
My foster parents say they will be heartbroken to see me go to my forever home, only because they say I’m perfect in every way, but it’s the only way they can continue to foster and save other nycacc survivors like me.
Right now, I’m sharing attention-time and yard-time with 4 other dogs here. I’m very grateful and appreciative to be safe here, but I really would like to get settled into the forever home that I know must be waiting for me for somewhere…. will you be my forever family? I promise, I’ll be the most well-behaved pet you’ve ever had and I won’t let you down! I am spayed, heart worm tested, have all my shots and I am microchipped too!
Thank you for considering me!”
Hello, my name is Bingo! At first it was Bingo-no-stopit, but I guess my foster people thought that was too long as after a few weeks they shortened it to just “Bingo.” I love my name; it means I am a dog with a future and not just a problem to get rid of. Plus it has lots of spring in it, just like me!
Life is good with my foster family; I’ve never had so much food and human touch, and I get to sleep with my people, which is the best. But I know my true-love person is looking for me and I can’t wait till we meet. Here I have to share my people with three other dogs and three of those creatures they call “cats.” Somehow they don’t realize that those “cats” are dangerous vermin that need to be chased far away. Every time I try to take care of the problem I end up back in my crate, which makes me sad. I’ve learned so much since coming here. I know “sit,” “down,” “come,” “stay,” leave,” “wait” and I’m even beginning to understand “heel.” But I just cannot control myself around those fluffy vermin. I hope my true-love person finds me soon as I’m really afraid of going somewhere called “boarding.” My foster mom tells me that the worst is past and the best is yet to come. Should I believe her?
Bingo is a fifteen month old pit bull cross whose gorgeous copper coat has faint chocolate brindles running through it. His golden almond eyes have seen the worst from human beings, yet they are still filled with love and trust. A few small scars on his face are the only visible signs of his past sufferings, and he looks ahead with hope to a new life with his own special person. That person will be patient and kind, with lots of time, as Bingo has been starved of human contact throughout his young life. His greatest joy is to curl up as close to his human as he can, to make up for all those long months of abuse and neglect. He loves tasks and rewards, and he is quickly learning basic obedience. Leash training is the next big challenge, but Amsterdog will sponsor a trainer for the lucky person who brings Bingo home. Please don’t let his fate be a boarding kennel, where loneliness and despair will once again engulf him! He has come so far in just two months, and the sky is really the limit for this athletic, eager boy. Bingo is neutered, up to date with his shots, and microchipped.
Visit Bingo on Facebook for additional photos
To meet Bingo, please contact us. Thanks for caring about a dog in need!
“My name is Rocky and I am an 8 y/o neutered senior that weighs 75 lbs.
I was lucky to survive the nycacc not once, but twice! First I was adopted from there 5 years ago, but then my family of adults and teenagers could no longer keep me and brought my back there again 🙁
Thanks to AmsterDog, I was rescued and am now in foster with a family in PA. But, my foster family already has 2 dogs and 2 more also being fostered from the nycacc. This means I have to take turns with 4 other dogs to have outside time in the yard or on walks, and time to spend being around my foster family. Since I am most content to just ‘be’ in the presence of humans, I am sad that I have to spend so much time in my crate.
I am a good boy and have a lot going for me. I am housetrained (of course!), I walk excellent on the leash (no pulling), and I know a ton of commands including sit, stay, come, wait, down, leave it, and take it. I do not jump up on people unless invited; I wait for direction from my humans.
I am not the type of rambunctious pup that will slobber all over you; instead, I am mature and reserved. I will give hugs and the occasional kiss when invited, but otherwise I prefer to just be sitting at your feet or in nearby proximity to you. Wherever you go, I like to be nearby and this makes me the perfect companion dog! I enjoy my stuffed toys and bones, but the thing I enjoy most in life – above all else – is just being able to be in the presence of my humans. That is when I am most content.
I am quiet when outside in the yard or on walks – I don’t bark at passersby or other dogs. I tolerate other dogs okay, but prefer the company of humans since that’s what I was accustomed to being the only dog in my previous family. My foster family also has a cat and since I’ve never really had interaction with cats, I am very curious about them and that makes me want to chase them.
I have been told I am a handsome dog with my nice thick coat and regal looking face. Except of course for my one unique and endearing trait that sets me apart from the others – I have one ear that stays up and one that stays down!
I am very grateful to my foster family for giving me a place to stay, but I really need to be in a home without all of the commotion of so many other dogs coming and going. Won’t you please consider being my forever family and giving me a home where I can spend my senior years without having to worry about ending up at the shelter again? In exchange, I promise you love, loyalty, good behavior, protection, and most of all – companionship – since being in the company of humans is truly what I love more than anything else. Thank you for taking the time to read my bio and considering me for adoption!”
Love, Rocky ♥
Lola~Lovely Pittie Looking for a Home!
Blairstown, New Jersey
Hola, my name is Lola and I’d like to get to know ya!
I am a 5 year old playful pit-bull mix! I listen very well and sit when you tell me, I also give paw, and I can lay when you tell me too! I am crate trained and pee and poop outside….did I tell you I like it out side, it’s fun and there are so many smells!
I am from the city, and now live in the country. I can adapt anywhere as long as you love me!
I like to cuddle and curl up right next to you…I like other dogs and can curl up with them too!!! They are fun to play tag with!
I am very good but sometimes I get too excited I don’t know my boundaries. I might knock into you but it’s only to let you know I am comfortable with you!
I’m pretty popular, most people like me or love me, cause I’m cute and I like just about everyone.
I love squeaky toys and chew bones and all you have to say is “drop it” and it’s yours I just hope you throw it for me or give it back but sometimes I forget all about it….squirrel!!!!
Oh sorry, I also love walks and runs…I love my belly rubbed too! I’ll even flip right over to show it to you.
No one really knows my story…I know I had puppies at least once and I was somehow sent to this place that was going to kill me… Did I mention I was abused so if you raise your hand I quiver but I will still love you and kiss you no matter what! ….Back to my story, I was about to be killed and then these 2 people came to Brooklyn with treats and a new collar and leash for me! I gave them kisses as soon as I saw them cause I knew they saved me.
I was a little sick with kennel cough but they helped me get better and now I am ready for my new home!
Oh yeah, I was also spayed and I got some type of chip in me so you can find me if anything should happen but I’m a pretty good listener so hopefully I’ll come right back!!! I also got a lot of shots, my humans say I’m up to date….whatever that means.
So, if you’re out there, and you’re looking for a dog like me…come get me! I’m ready with hugs and lots of kisses!!!!
New York City, NY
Hi everybody! I am Miss Cutie Pie Robin! I am 44 lbs and about 4 years young with stunning good looks! So it’s hard to understand how I wound up on the streets of Brooklyn, and then horror of horrors, ended up in the shelter where I caught a cold, and they wanted to kill me because of it! I have had a litter of puppies, but I don’t know what happened to them. I sometimes feel pretty sad that they were taken from me! I am going to go have a surgery so that I never have to go through that pain again!
My foster parents tell me that I am THE BEST most snuggly, sweet and gentle dog that either of them have ever met. I’m better behaved than both of their little dogs, even. One of their dogs tried to attack me, and I had to defend myself. Now we have to be separated because the other dog doesn’t like me. I do get along and like to snuggle with their little male dog- we get along just fine! My foster family thinks I would be ok in a home either as a solo dog or with low key male dog.
I am really a good listener and take correction well, and I love to make my people happy! I know my basic commands, sit, stay, come, drop it and I am learning how to give paw!
I love to be outside and to explore and run around, staying close to my people! I must admit however that I am not thrilled about putting my paws in cold wet mud…because I’m a lady, obviously… I can be a bit dainty at times and get chilly, so I like to wear warm outerwear when the temperatures get cooler. My foster mom got me a bright orange jacket with fleece, not to brag, but DANG I look good!
At home, I am a lazy couch potato and I love being under blankets and on your lap/chest/face. I won’t jump up on furniture unless I am invited, but if you let me, you will have made my entire day!! I will gladly take a bone when offered, although truth be told, it is more fun to try and find hiding places in the house where I can leave it! If you find it though, I have to search out for another hiding place… I am very gentle when treats are given and I promise not to bite your hand when I take it from you.
I am a very good girl in the car, I love to run errands with my foster family, I am fine when I am home alone, no crates needed for me, thank you very much! I don’t chew on furniture or your belongings. If you want to leave the tv on while you are away, I won’t complain!
While I do love people of all ages, I prefer to be solo pet in the home!!
If you want me to be your girl, I promise I will love you and smother you with affection and gratitude all the days of my life! PLEASE inquire about me today!

Hope things are good but you might ask how make them awesome by making me your number one snuggle buddy for life! My name is Raven and I am a lady who is looking for a forever family to give all my adorableness to! I am well trained, love everyone from little kids to big adults, cuddle like a champ, and will defend you from that evil beast: The Vacuum.
My mama basically wrote a book about how great I am and it’s good stuff!
“Raven loves to give kisses and she and my 3 year old grandson are a hoot to watch with how they love each other. In fact whenever she gets extra happy and likes to play and you think she’s had enough, I just tell her so and she chills out. She is the best cuddle buddy at night and will curl up beside you or even rest her head on you and it is the sweetest thing and melts your heart. I’ve taught her to walk well on a leash (We prefer the right side) and she is pulling less than she was. She really learns fast and does the most adorable thing by walking around with her leash in her mouth to hold it for you. Raven is a terrific companion and great car buddy.
Oh, one thing that makes her extra amazing is that she is a comedian! She does this thing that is too cute is when the vacuum is on. She barks at it but not in a mean way, like she’s almost telling it to back off like she is defending you. I have to turn my head so she doesn’t see me laughing. Also she barks at herself in the mirror sometimes. Again letting anyone know that she’s looking out for you. It cracks me up.”
I am a really good girl, but it’s true, I think I’m a real hoot and love to entertain. The sad thing is, my mama is very sick. So much so that she isn’t going to be able to take care of me soon. It’s made her cry and cry, she’s such an awesome lady. She doesn’t want me to go, but she wants me to have a good home and be taken care of, the way she cannot do.
Luckily the cool folks at the rescue group are helping me find my new forever home. So we are looking for someone to give me love and funnies too. And really yummy food like buffalo chews! I hope that’s you! Trust me, a good laugh and Raven snuggles are the secret ingredient for a happy life!
By the way, I am spayed, up to date on shots, microchipped and very healthy!
