Zippy the Yorkie wants a home!

NYC – Zippy is a 20 pound Yorkshire Terrier mix, estimated to be 8 or 9 years old, who is full of love. His favorite things are going for long walks, playing with toys and balls, chewing on bones, and snacking on veggies! Zippy came from the ACC and shows signs of past abuse and as a result may take some time to come out of his shell. He is definitely a survivor! He is friendly with some smaller dogs, though prefers to be with human companions (probably not young children).

Zippy has been recently neutered, had his teeth cleaned, and is up-to-date on his vaccines. He’d love a yard to explore but has done well in an apartment. Zippy thrives in a regular schedule and loves to snuggle. He will undoubtedly bring lots of energy and joy to a forever home.

New York, NY Chicharito, a tiny NYC ACC survivor, is just a little lover boy you need to add to your family. He is 6 pounds, house trained and he’s just adorable. He likes nothing more than to snuggle up on the couch and watch TV or read.

He’s definitely a lap boy and has the softest head you have ever felt. He loves to be picked up and cuddled and he will never pass up an opportunity to be picked up or cuddled with. He loves his mini tennis ball that squeaks and runs away with it to his cozy bed. He collects little toys and puts them in his bed. He has a very big collection going on at the moment. Chich -as we call him – is great at cleaning up little nuggets while dinner is being served and after dinner. Hire him today! 🙂

Star is a beautiful gray 10 year old 50 lb.Pit Bull who was rescued from the city shelter on 11/11/2016, thanks to our amazing friends at Canine Kindergarten. Here is what Star’s devoted foster mom had to say about this super sweet senior: NY Senior Star lived in one home for 10 yrs. One day they walked her over to a city shelter, turned their backs and walked away from her.

This Angel of God is happy, sweet, healthy, a great eater, no food aggression, loves the car, adores my 10 yr old daughter, off leash trained, good listener, mature, house trained (amazing bladder), when left alone, will go to sleep, squeeze her and she makes cooing noises, good with big and small dogs, good with cats, loves all visitors and is always, always happy.

ROTTERDAM, NY;       He’s a serious looking guy, but is proving to be lots of fun. King just graduated from Tall Tails Training in PA and is now all ready to find his forever home.

Charles, Richard, Elvis….all kings, just like me!! That’s because we all rule at stuff. Like me, I deserve a crown just for being so cute and cuddly. All I need is my kingdom, which in doggie world means a forever family. A really good boy that is downright adorable like me deserves it. A lot of humans like my foster and volunteer have nothing but royally awesome things to say about me. Like how good I am on my leash and that I love my walks, I am house trained, really like kids, know my commands like sit and stay, loving and playful. All I need is my throne, a fluffy doggy bed after a long day of fun and snuggles. As long as your close, this is one happy King! If you think I’m cute in pictures, come meet me and see why they call me King!

Shelter Notes: A volunteer writes:

Last Christmas King Clown was the adorable gift his family gave themselves, a tiny bundle of wrinkles and sweetness who wanted nothing more than to snuggle, play, eat and sleep. Except for a few (ok, around 45) extra pounds he’s still all those things and a whole lot of sassy fun besides yet this Christmas there’s a big piece missing from King Clown’s life…no more family. Which is where you come in! He’d be the perfect partner for an active, outdoorsy home and would love to spend this Christmas dashing through the snow (he loves the snow), capturing a ball and leaping back into the waiting arms of his lucky adopter–you!

Described as friendly, affectionate, playful and confident by his former owners, King Clown’s a happy young dude who loves to explore and he’s always up for a good game of fetch or tug. He walks enthusiastically on leash, seems very house trained and knows commands for come, sit and stay, though the latter can sometimes get a bit lost in the excitement of playtime. All this and he’s dazzlingly handsome too! King Clown formerly lived with very young kids but his energetic bounciness would be better suited to a home with older children, the more the merrier as he loves to socialize and is happy to spread his smushy-faced love around.

King, your future best friend! He is neutered, up to date on shots, and micro chipped.

For additional photos, please visit King’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Beautiful ADDY, 2 yr old, 47 lb. pittie mix is ready for a HOME — no dogs or cats….kids OK

Scituate, MA 02066 “Two year old, 47 lb. cutie pittie Adalyn was found in a park the day after Christmas, in the Bronx along with an empty water and food bowls. The finder took her in for the night but wasn’t able to keep her, but did tel us that Adalyn is a happy sweetheart who’s tail never stops wagging. And that tail is still wagging, one month later….. From Adalyn’s foster family:

Adalyn or Addy, as we sometimes call her, is a sweet little girl. She is approximately 2 years old,and weighs 47 pounds as of today. She has the most beautiful velvet soft grey fur. Evelyn from the shelter describes her as a tiny grey mouse and she kinda is. She is an excellent snuggler and seems happiest when she is curled up on the couch or the bed and she tucks under our arms and rests her head on our chests. She loves pillows and she loves plush stuffed toys and balls. She loves to run on the beach on a long leash and loves the park too.

She is very protective and will sometimes bark or growl at other dogs or strangers. We are working on making her more at ease in these situations by telling her she is safe and in a good place. She is a great protector and very smart and alert. Addy would like to be your one and only dog. Completely housebroken and once she does her business, which she usually does right away, she likes to head back inside for food, play and rest time. She knows basic commands such as sit, lay down, stay and be calm. Such a smart girl!” Adalyn is spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped.
For additional photos, please visit Addy’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Smooshy Faced Pittie Pup needs forever home!

Schoharie, NY This is Omar, an affectionate and fun loving American Pit Bull/Boxer mix. Omar is an 11 month old young boy in need of a new friend. Omar weighs 55 lbs with some room to grow into his big feet! He is mostly black with some white areas on his nose, feet and neck/chest. Omar would love to have a kid of his own and will play gently with a younger friend or tug rope and get rowdy with an older person or other dogs. Meeting new dogs is not an issue for Omar, but he will stand his ground if intimidated by a less friendly playmate. Within minutes though, Omar is happy running and jumping with his new friends like they’d been together forever! Omar’s favorite toy is a rope to throw around on his own or to tug with a friend or two. He will gladly plop himself down in your lap on the couch if you’d like, or he will make himself comfortable in his own spot to rest as long as he knows you are still there if he needs you. He really appreciates being rubbed on and reminded that he is loved. He will also sleep in bed, on the floor, in his crate or anywhere in the bedroom that is comfortable for him to lay, but he snores like a bear! Omar does have a bit of anxiety when left alone and is best in a sturdy, large crate so he has room to move without bending bars as he is quite the strong boy; he is beginning to adjust and is making improvements while left alone, however, if you have other friendly dogs he can hang out with, he will feel more comforted. He also appreciates a soft blanket in the crate with him so he can snooze while he waits for your return. Omar knows “sit” and he is practicing with other basic commands. He loves to receive praise and is respectful on leash with a harness. Come meet Omar and you’ll fall in love with everything from the way he looks at you to the way he trots around looking for a toy. Omar is neutered, is up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.
For additional photos, please visit Omar’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Hey everyone! Meet DISCO! A jovial little fellow who, like the late, great humorist Will Rogers, has never met a man (woman, child, dog or cat) he doesn’t like! Disco is a recent survivor from the NYC ACC where he was given a stellar rating of AVERAGE (though there is nothing “average” about this funny little man!) He demonstrated outstanding behavior during his stay at the ACC, earning an almost perfect score on his behavior evaluation, and a favorite of the behavior staff! Read what a shelter volunteer had to say about Mr. Disco~

This uproariously funny little dude is such an awesome dog that we want to just write “AMAZING!” and trust that you will immediately come down to check him out of the Chateau Care Center and take him into your forever home. Should you need any more encouragement, he has the best ears (maybe ever), he is gentle as the day is long, he loves to snuggle, he appears house trained, you will get the fun of a big dog (check out his head!) with the convenience of a medium sized dog (think Basset hound legs). He is fantastic on a leash, appears house trained, and is friendly to absolutely everyone he meets. The behavior staff agrees he is all-around lovely, but who in the world could argue for a second? Do not miss the opportunity to spend your days with this boy and start your Disco party!

In his foster home, he has continued to behave in a most excellent manner. He is playful (would do great in a home with another playful, friendly dog). He is respectful of the resident cat and Chihuahua. Disco is aptly named, for when he gets excited, he leaps and twirls in the air, entertaining his human friends with his dynamite dance moves! House trained, and good leash manners, Disco would make a great addition to an active individual, couple or family. Disco has a zest for life, he will make a new family very happy! Disco is neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped.

For additional photos, please visit Disco’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Wallkill, NY – Sweet Peppy may be seven years young, but still has a lot of pep in his step, to be sure! He is a super happy little wiggle-butt who loves everyone he meets, and the feelings are mutual for this amazing boy! He is a very lucky boy, making it out of the shelter alive and into a wonderful foster home where he is cherished. Here is what one of the shelter volunteers had to say about him:

At around 7 years old, Peppy’s puppy days are over–now he’s got plenty of mature love to go around! Peppy stays very quiet in his cage and watches me closely as I approach, not sure if it he should come forward until he’s sure I’m taking him out for a walk. But as soon as he sees me getting ready to open the door, he runs up to the front of the cage, tail wagging a million miles a minute. This sweet, gentle boy seems to be house-trained, walks well on a leash, and has just a teeny touch of pretty gray on his brindle face– a truly esteemed gentleman. When I dropped Peppy back off in his cage after our walk today, he was so grateful for the chance to go outside that he jumped up and gave me a big goodbye kiss on the nose.

Peppy is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped.

For additional photos, please visit Peppy’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Griffey – 2 y/o, 55 lb Male PitMix – Special Needs – Currently in Training

Frenchtown, NJ – Our special needs pup, Griffey, was rescued from the shelter and is so thankful to be alive!

Due to Griffey’s Neuromuscular condition, we are in NEED OF DONATIONS for his rehabilitative veterinary care and behavioral modification training in order to prepare him for a forever home. His stay at this facility costs $1,800. Anything you can do to help this sweet SPECIAL NEEDS guy is tremendously appreciated! Please donate at www.amsterdog.org. Thank you for caring about a pet in need! <3

Our Griffey is a real life miracle! And now, he could use just a dash more of that. Just a short while ago, this sweet boy wasn’t even able to walk due to a terrifying neuromuscular disease called Myasthenia Gravis. Myasthenia Gravis (MG), pronounced (My-as-theen-ee-a Grav-us), comes from Greek and Latin words meaning grave muscle weakness. It is a Neuromuscular Autoimmune disease that left Griffey without the ability to walk and difficulty with eating.

Thanks to treatment at the Animal Specialty Center of NY and his true dog spirit, he is walking around and eating. Griffey is in full remission and he is walking and eating like a champ! Griffey was rescued from the shelter and is so thankful to be alive! He was a volunteer favorite during his stay at the shelter, and with good reason.

Here is what the shelter volunteers had to say:

I don’t know if Griffey was named for the Seattle Mariners Hall of Famer Ken Griffey, Jr., but I do know that Griffey has been placed in my personal Hall of Fame. What a great dog! Breathtaking in his gorgeous rust color coat, he’s super quiet in his kennel, goes potty the moment we’re outside and has lovely leash manners, sniffing all the good scents on our way to the park. A bit camera-shy it’s hard to capture a good photo of Griffey, so you’ll need to come see for yourself, or just take my word for it. His tail wags when I pet him, and after he warms up to me he loves to crawl on my lap, or that part of him that will fit, and give me sweet kisses. He’s the kind of companion you’ll find yourself having pithy conversations with: How do you feel about gun control? Which is better, Animal Planet or America’s Got Talent? Or perhaps lighter conversation such as ‘what shall we have for dinner’? and so on…. Griffey didn’t like either of my treats, will sit with a light tap on his tush, and is so quiet, calm and easy that I wish I could have spent the entire afternoon with him. A quiet listener, a charming companion, he will make you feel like there is no one on the planet more important than you. Come meet my Hall of Famer and make him yours.

He is further described by his adoring foster mom as “A gentleman who enjoys the company of people and other dogs. He loves to give hugs and kisses, and is well behaved when left home alone!”

Griffey is neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped.

For additional photos, please visit Griffey’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Long Island, NY – Kiah is a 6 month old female tawny brindle American Pit Bull mix puppy that was left behind after her owners moved. A good neighbor brought her in to the shelter, where Kiah quickly acquired her very own fan club!

She is very active, playful and will jump onto your lap, climb your shoulder and give you an endless amount of kisses. She loves being on your lap and is a ball of fun puppy energy. Kiah loves treats and will dance to get more. Her tiny body wiggles and her tail wags like a little tadpole in fresh water. She has filled out nicely thanks to her devoted foster family, and they tell us she can sit on command and is very affectionate, too, without being needy.

Kiah walks well on the leash, her tail floating happily above her. She properly meets other dogs in the street and plays exuberantly with her peers in playgroups. She will let males know that she does not like to be mounted. A wise thing to do. Kiah is a pretty marble cake delicacy, a sweet and happy munchkin, a good puppy, all ready to jump in your life for the next fifteen years to come.

Kiah is spayed, up to date on shots and micro-chipped, and all ready for her Forever Home!

For additional photos, please visit Kiah’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about a pup in need!

Aemilia~precious 8 month old, 43 lb Pittie Princess!

Gaithersburg, MD 20879 – Aemilia is an adorable White and Tan Pittie Mix with the cutest rabbit ears, who loves to give kisses. Here is what her foster mom had to say about this sweet 8 month old 43 lb. bright eyed beauty!

After a month in her foster home, Aemilia’s true personality is starting to show. She is a sweet cuddler and vocal about what she wants. She shows no sign of food aggression, and she sits patiently while my 2 dogs get their treats first, but she gobbles her food really fast and then checks out the other bowls.

She does listen when my little hound mix growls her warning to stay away from her food. She is quite young and still learning her manners, such as how to take treats nicely, but is progressing well with this, as well as her leash manners. Aemilia loves to play, roll around in the grass and discover new things.

It is obvious that she needs some confidence boosting, for when we walk after dark, she is leery of shadows and crouches when she walks. She is learning to trust and I am sure she will overcome this fear soon as she is a very smart girl. Aemilia does honor a gate, but she doesn’t like her crate or to be gated in the kitchen, but treats and food bribes win her over every time.

She has had some trepidation with stairs, but to come up to bed at night with me and my pack, she will do just about anything. We all sleep in my bed, but Aemilia has trouble joining us as she does not know how to jump onto the bed. Most nights she starts out in a dog bed, but by morning she has figured something our as she is snuggled right against me when I wake. I guess the bed and stairs issues are a testament to her previous life where she had no experience with these luxuries.”

Aemilia is a good girl who will be a great companion for someone willing to help train and teach her. Her heart has no shortage of love in it and she will be a wonderful BFF to you and your family. House trained, spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped.

For additional photos, please visit Aemilia’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

TINKERBELL, Super Sweet Blue-Nose Pittie, seeks 4-Ever Home!

Highlands, NJ 07732 If you’re in the market for some Grade A snuggles then say hello to me, Tinkerbell! I might not have fairy dust like my famous name sake, but I will make you believe in magic, I am that sweet. And just like Tinkerbell from Peter Pan, I bring love and energy and sparkle everywhere I go. I am a 4 year old 72 lb. blue nosed pittie mix who has so much to give!

My foster mom says “We absolutely adore Tink. She is loyal to the core. She loves playing catch and going for runs. She’s such fun and has great energy. She loves to gather her toys and prance around the house with as many as she can fit in her mouth. How cute is that! She is housetrained and will definitely sit for treats. She is also a huge fan of snuggling. She’s such a cutie!

If I sit down on the ground. she’s quick to nuzzle the entire weight of her head against me or crawl into my lap…she is so, so cuddly! She’ll prop her paws on me as if to celebrate our togetherness, then bounce away, she flops over for belly rub when she brings the ball back, and she always makes the softest eye contact (and gives the best kisses!)” As amazing as I am, I come from the school of hard knocks.

I was a mama dog and taken from my pups too soon. And then I was dropped off the place that no dog wants to go: the shelter. Luckily my angels at Amsterdog saved me and then my foster family reminded me how incredible people are. I am a happy gal now and still have a little ways to go from being sick at the shelter but getting better everyday. And I’m really excited about that because I’m looking for my forever home to bring all my love and cuddles to. I hope that’s you! By the way, I am about to be spayed, have all my shots, and I am microchipped too!

To meet me, please contact AmsterDog and get ready for some really nice kisses from me! Love, Tink <3

Wallkill, NY

My name is Tony (fka Tuti) and I am a really great dog. Thanks to a wonderful foster mommy, I was saved from being killed at the NYC ACC! I am a medium energy, 2 year old, 30 pound pup who loves to go on walks. I am a quick learner too.

Five weeks ago I was not house trained and didn’t know any commands but now I am house trained and learning the “sit” command. I am not a great eater and my foster parents are still trying to find a food that I really love. I love to play fetch with balls and squeak soft toys but NEVER try to take out the squeaker!! I just run around the house gently making it squeak. I love Kitty and occasionally will try to play.

I think I’m dog friendly too. We pass dogs on our walk and I barely glance at them even if they are barking at me! I really love nothing more than to sit by your side. I have not been crated because I’m so “chill”. I will sleep on my bed on the floor as long as I can at least see you but I prefer to sleep in your bed. I will try to be invisible and tiny so you don’t make me get off!!

My foster parents think I’m a real charmer. I will bark and growl if a stranger approaches “my” people but then I’m great once I know you are not trying to hurt them. Groomer said I was”antsy” but I was just excited. I was groomed had my nails clipped and teeth brushed. I like baths at home and love to be towel dried endlessly!

I would love to be able to be around people 24/7 but I am not destructive when left alone. So if you think I would fit into your home, please adopt me. I would love to have a furever place to lay my head!

Tony is up to date on vaccines, neutered, and microchipped.

For additional photos, please visit Tony’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Shushan, New York 12873

Sweet Rafy, a 15 lb. Norwich Terrier Mix, was pulled from the euthanasia list and placed in a home that did not give him the decompression time he very much needed, and they quickly gave up on him. Now he is thriving in a home where he is given the space and time he needs and is doing so well!

From Rafy’s devoted Foster Mom:

Rafy is doing great…. He ate his breakfast in private and now jumps on you for love…. He no longer is worried about being touched where he can’t see ad he loves a pet on the head….He walks on his leash and does his business… he still is not real happy about the Boys but he does sit in his crate with the door open and watches them…

He is not ready yet for the Play Area if there are any others out there… That will come in time….So we have placed a open door crate in the dining room for him so he can hide if he gets overwhelmed by the Boys… They know he is here and since he doesn’t want to play with them they are now ignoring him and every once in a while take a look at the crate to see if he is there… He does take a stroll out once in a while and is now sniffing with his head out of the crate if he sees them… No contact yet, but that will come with time…

He likes my husband and will rough house with him…. Today we are going to put his bed in the office with Mr Bo’s bed and see if he will use that as his safe spot along with the crate….

He is a doll baby, very sweet and when he finally jumps on one of the Boys and gives them a run for their money I will be grateful…LOL

Thanks again for allowing me to Foster this beautiful little guy….He is loved….Pictures will follow if I can get him to sit down….LOL…

For additional photos, please visit Rafy’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Bull Terrier Mix Puppy, Great with Kids!

East Stroudsburg, PA

From Chase’s foster mom:

This is Chase (aka “Cheese”). He is a bull terrier or mix. He is 7-8 months old and is neutered and has a microchip and all his vaccines. Cheese is a character! He is very amusing and always has a smile on his face! This little dude is a fantastic puppy! He has incredible food drive and is very laid back at the same time. He would be the perfect companion dog. He will walk, hike and swim, he also loves car rides. But at home He is a couch potato. Cheese adores his one person but is very kind to all. He will just lay at your feet or sit in the chair.

He especially likes his morning routine of sitting on the deck and watching the hummingbirds. He is very good in public and has great leash manners. He is housebroken and crate trained, along with learning his obedience at rocket speed!. He loves to play and snuggle. He is good with children, older than 8. He also gets along great with smaller dogs and cats. He is dominant with bigger dogs, but OK with dogs his size, 50 lbs., or smaller.

A volunteer writes:

When I close my eyes and picture my ‘ideal puppy’ he looks exactly like Polo–a soft gaze, long elegant nose and that velveteen coat of shiny gold–and when I open them I find the real-life version has a perfect personality to match–gentle, humble, kissy, cuddly, playful and silly. What else to conclude but that Polo is a dream come true?

The best little Bull Terrier mix this side of ever, he’s rather timid at first meeting but I offer him a soft hand and a kind word to prove I’m a friend and before I know it he’s hopped onto the bench to share snuggles, smooches and doe-eyed little love looks with me. He may be just a baby but Polo poses so patiently as I try to snap photos in the fading daylight and even though his many tiny kisses show as no more than a blur on camera, I’m not about to stop him from smothering me in them!

The oohs and awws of passersby follow wherever he goes and other dogs seem to sense he’s not inherited his breed’s reputation for pushiness either, approaching with the same softly wagging happy tail as Polo himself. He walks nicely, takes care of his business in the street, listens to correction and comes when called, and his only small naughtiness is playfully jumping and tugging on the leash before a firm ‘no’ puts all four paws back on the ground.

Puppies need guidance and even the good-enough-to-eat ones like Polo take a lot of work to raise up right, yet the love and effort you put in will be paid back ten times over

BLUE! Male Weimaraner/Pit x, 18 mos, 70 lbs needs 4-ever home!

Gloversville, NY – Hi everyone! My name is Blue (although I am really more of a luscious honey in color- the only blue you will find on me is my collar that I currently don!) I am a beautiful blend of Weimaraner and pit bull.

Despite my stunning good looks, I was surrendered to the NYC animal shelter because my previous owners didn’t spend time teaching me good doggy manners. They didn’t take the time to walk me or get me the exercise and mental stimulation I so desperately needed, so like any guy with my puppy charisma, I became destructive in that home.

Everyone at the shelter loved me, I was well behaved and was able to show off my big boy doggy skills, like “sit” and “give paw”. My charm wasn’t enough to keep me off the dreaded “to be destroyed” list though. I got sick, and they were going to kill me for that.

Thanks to a wonderful lady who saw my potential to be an awesome canine companion, I was rescued in the nick of time. She knew how much I love all people (kids too! But because I am not so great yet with curbing my exuberance with people, I should go to a home with older kids that can withstand my effervescent personality and charisma). If you let me, I will sit in your lap and smother you with my glorious doggy kisses!

I am a very smart boy who knows sit and stay (I take treats ever so gently!), I am house trained, but I do like you to stay with me in the yard while I “do my business.”

My leash manners are improving, but I still pull with excitement when I see other dogs out on my walks. I haven’t quite fallen in love with my crate, I would rather be on top of it than in it, but I am learning that it isn’t such a horrible place to be since it keeps me safe. I would do best with a patient person who is willing to continue to work with me on these things so that I blossom into a well-mannered adult.

Some of my favorite things are frozen raw beef bones, going for car rides, playing tug with my ropes, and wubba kong toys. Oh, and when you have to leave the house, I would appreciate if you turn on classical music for me to listen to, it helps keep me calm.

I would love to be a part of an active family who can get me out on hikes, or I can definitely be a great running partner! If you have other canine members of the family, a meet and greet would be in order. I am charming, loveable and ready to be your best friend! Please ask about me today! Hugs and wags,

Blue

Blue is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.

Waterbury, CT

It’s about me, Gloria! I’m basically the next Elsa, Little Mermaid, Jasmine or Cinderella because my story reads like one of those ladies just waiting to become the princess they were meant to be. I might be a lady dog but I’m just as regal!

And if you ask my awesome foster humans, they’ll let you know how special I am. “Gloria is a beautiful 6 year old 49 lb. lady who is really playful but really loves to snuggle. She loves to play chase me with her pink ball, and loves her daily walks. We think she’s really fun for a middle aged lady!

She’s great with big kids but may be nervous around little ones because of how quick and loud they can be. She goes potty outside and will let you know when it’s time.  She loves to be outside in a fenced yard, especially if her human is outside too.  She’s a beautiful beagle mix and would be a wonderful addition to her forever family.”

Like I said before, there’s always a “right before they became a princess moment” and mine is that I lived in an abandoned building in Brooklyn for years! Talk about a tough cookie! But thanks to nice humans who fed me, I kept my big heart bright and even had my own little dog house. On sunny days, I would take a blanket someone gave me and put it out while the sun shined on me. And at night I would bring it back in my dog house to make my bed.  (And I STILL love being covered up with my blankie at night!)  Maybe that’s what kept me so warm. Or maybe it’s knowing my forever family would be looking for me and maybe that’s you.

Dogs make everything better and I want to be that dog to you! So hurry! I’ve been waiting a long time for my happy ending!

(P.S.~I would do best in a home with larger well-mannered dogs, no small animals for me, please!

Gloria is spayed, up to date on her shots and microchipped.

KENNEDY ~ 3 y/o, 65lb Pittie Mix – Good With Dogs & Older Kids

Southbridge MA –

“Hi, I’m Kennedy, a 3 y/o, 65lb tan pittie mix who was saved from death row at the nycacc.

My foster family has nicknamed me ‘Kenny’ for short and I would love a nice quiet home with or without other dogs. I get along great with my doggie foster brother but he’s the biggest push over ever! I just started letting him share the doggy bed I stole from him on my first day here.

I’ve played with a bunch of different dogs, I prefer off leash introductions through a baby gate but I’m getting better at walking by strange dogs from a distance and not getting too excited. I can also play with dogs while I’m on leash if they’re not making a big fuss and I can get closer gradually.

When I first got out of the shelter I was skinny and full of worms so when I get something like food, a bone, or chew toy, I don’t want anyone taking it from me unless they’ve got something cool to trade. My foster parents have been working on me a lot with ‘resource guarding’, but I would prefer to be left alone to eat.

I don’t mind kids – I’ll be good and let them pet me but they have to be old enough to know not to take things away from me or run around screaming because it makes me nervous. I let you know when I’m nervous by licking my lips/nose or whining, and – just to impress you with how smart I am – I even let you know when I need to go outside by touching the jingle bells on the door knob! Speaking of house training, I’m great at that – I’ve never had an accident in my crate while my foster family is at work!

I’m well behaved and can be trusted – if my foster family goes out for a few hours, I don’t chew their shoes or raid the trash can!

I’ve been told I have a great amount of energy, I’m playful and fun but love to cuddle.

I do get a little nervous in new situations and don’t like being forced to do anything but with someone to train me and continue building my confidence, I promise I’ll be a fantastic and loyal family pet!

Love, licks and tail wags,

Kennedy (aka Kenny) <3

If you’re not already hypnotized by my big brown eyes you should read the great stuff my foster friends had to say: “Bucky is very sweet, likes to meet people at his own pace, extremely loyal, protective, good with dogs and ignored my cat while he was here. He sits nicely for treats and knows stay. He LOVES going on walks and being outside in the sunshne.”

Yeow! What a good boy I am! Sadly my original owner wasn’t They’re definitely on the naughty list after dropping me and my whole fam off at the shelter one day. Diamond~Snuggly 5 y.o., 83 lb pit mix! Needs 4-ever home

Columbiaville, NY

Meet Diamond! An adorable 83 lb pit mix who survived FOUR times on the euthanasia list at the NYC ACC! She would so love to be a lap doggie and could snuggle with you all day! Likely a previous family dog, Diamond is ready for her new adoptive home!

A shelter favorite- here is what one shelter volunteer had to say about her:

Diamond and I are inseparable…. There is no way I can take a picture of her whole body or even her face without having myself unfortunately in it…Diamond is a love bug, a velcro dog, a bit anxious and needy of human presence. Looking at her, her rotund shape, her perfect coat, her great state of health , her dislike to return to her kennel, and her sociability, I know that she was a house dog, a family pooch, just yesterday…

Maybe she was left behind when her people moved….Diamond is quiet in her den. I thought at first that she was not used to a leash, going here and there on our walk… Once it the park, she was a perfect walker, pulling just a little, not forgetting to do her business in one stop. A “break” under a tree and in the shade was most welcome, mostly after a drink of fresh water and a snack. Not that Diamond needs more food. A treadmill should be more like it on her wish list….Diamond really enjoyed the park, the smells , kids running around and of course, my lap… She is a real tank who does not know her weight and size. Diamond has so much love to give and such a need to belong. I really love this big gal who will be a wonderful friend and confidant to the new owner who will give her the chance to be adopted and offer her a caring home.

Diamond yearns to be be a family dog once again, she would love to snuggle up on your lap and be your best friend! Please consider this precious girl!

Diamond is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and is will be spayed prior to adoption.

SIMBA~majestic and gentle 61 lb, 5 y.o. pit x, needs 4-ever home

Trumbull, CT

Hello Future Family!

I’m Simba and I might not be a lion but I am just as beautiful and dare I say majestic as the guy from The Lion King with the same name. I am not just a good boy–I’m a great boy. So if you’re looking for true love and a best bud for life, read on.

My foster fam can confirm that I’m awesome:

“Whoever adopts five-year old Simba will have a wonderful family dog. Gentle and friendly, Simba has a winning personality. He has met my other dogs and cats, even a neighbor’s dog, and been nothing but well-mannered. He knows basic commands, such as sit and down. He walks well on a leash and is non-reactive to everything, including wildlife. Simba is also house-trained; a couple of times work kept me late and I expected an accident, only to find none. Finally, Simba tolerates handling—his legs have gotten tangled in the cord on the patio, and he takes correction—Simba, down.”

Um, can you say total package? And even after being abandoned by a not- so-great human I am still full of love and dedication. I was made for being part of a family, not staying at a scary place for dogs and luckily I was rescued by the superhumans at the rescue group.

Just like little Simba who came out on top after a tough time, I’m ready to be someone’s loving Lion King. So hurry up because the love of your life (me!) is waiting.

Love, Simba

Black Beauty Chante – 3 yr old, 40 lb. Lab/Pit Mix

Ludlow, Ma – MEET CHANTE – a 3 year old 40 lb Black Lab/Staffordshire mix with a shiny ebony coat, looking for her forever home. Chante was surrendered to the city shelter along with her 2 siblings. It was hard for her to lose her family, but she has come such a long way. Being the brave girl that she is, Chante has made so much progress and thanks to her devoted foster mom, she is now a happy willing to trust dog who loves being petted, hugged and even likes baths after digging holes in the back yard.

Chante loves going on walks, and knows how to Sit on command. She is fine with other dogs and is a gentle soul. She loves to squiggle on her back in the grass and get belly rubs. Affectionate and protective, well mannered, housetrained, and good with other dogs, Chante is a brave little girl who has come a long way.

Will you open your home and heart to her?

Chante is spayed, up to date on shots and micro chipped too.

MAX the Lab Mix – 5 yr Old Sweetheart in Need of a Home!

Bucks County, PA

Hello there!

My name is Max because I am all about taking it to the max when it comes to loving. I just need a forever family to give all the love to because a guy like me loves to share!

My foster says I am “an amazing dog who loves going on walks, being pet, giving licks and going on walks with my best human friends. He is potty trained up to date on all his shots and crate trained but fine being out of it. He is honestly the sweetest dog as long as he has someone to love and who loves him, a dog bed to sleep on and of courses kisses to give and get.”

I told you I was a lover! But you know who I’m not crazy about? Little kids. Maybe it’s because I got a scratch on one of my eyes when I was a puppy and don’t have the best vision in that eye but they make me a little nervous. Don’t get me wrong, little kids are so cute, maybe as cute as me, but I do love big kids and all adult humans. I really miss my sister so taking some time living with other dogs is necessary. I’d probably be best on my own, but with the right introduction and mindset anything is possible.

So I bet you’re looking for a dog to make your day and give you that “dog look of love” and that dog is me. So move at max speed and let’s spend forever together!

Max is neutered, up to date on shots and ready to find his forever home.

For additional photos, please visit Max’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Meet Bella & Milo! Two very bonded BFF’s that were surrendered by their owner to the Staten Island ACC. Thankfully, they were pulled from death row for an experienced AmsterDog foster family. These pups are currently living (and doing phenomenally well) with the children in the home (as young as six years of age.)

The staff in Staten Island adored this dynamic duo who LOVED to play with Frisbees and balls so much, they sent plenty of each with them when they were being transported to their new foster home.

About BELLA

A Rottweiler mix, BELLA is approximately 6 years old, apx. 90 pounds, up to date on vaccines, spayed, and microchipped. She is a girl of intellect who accepts being in a kennel, she is quite house-trained, knows “sit”, “down”, and how to walk nicely on a leash.

She is calm, friendly, and affectionate with her humans and other submissive dogs (this gorgeous gal likes to run the show).

About MILO

A Black Mouth Cur/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, MILO is approximately 5 years old, apx. 80 pounds, up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped.

He is a happy, wiggly, goofy, and playful boy when he is with his BFF Bella. He does get along with other dogs (even pushy females) but he prefers the company of BFF Bella and his human companions.

Milo is also a smart pup who knows commands for “sit” and “down.” He is currently working on his leash manners and should be up to snuff in no time!

While they do adore each other and love to share their affection with their human companions and with each other, they don’t care to share their food, so it is best if they eat in separate settings.

This precious pair is available to be adopted and are looking for a forever home! As they are so bonded, they will need to go to a home together.

Please note: homes with feline friends need not apply, as they have exhibited reactive behavior towards them.

For additional photos, please visit Bella & Milo’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Western PA – How to describe one year old 48 lb. Michelle?

Laughing eyes, freckled ears and a picture perfect eye patch — little Michelle is totally adorablicious! That’s right, we had to create a whole new word to cover the off-the-charts cuteness level of this tiny livewire, she really must be seen to be believed.

Barely out of puppyhood yet clearly already a mother herself, Michelle may not have had the most stable life in her previous home, but she has shown herself to be a a beautiful, intelligent, eager to please and learn, Pit bull Mix who loves children of all ages.

This energetic girl would be great for a family or single person. Her foster mom thinks Michelle is so smart and gentle, she thinks she could be a therapy dog. Michelle just loves being around people and is equally happy to be lying at your feet or sitting on your lap.

Michelle is energetic, so her ideal home would be one with a jogger or with a fenced in yard, so she can run to her heart’s content. Michelle could be the beautiful, funny, affectionate pet you’ve always wanted.

Michelle is spayed, up to date on shots, microchipped and fully vetted.

For additional photos, please visit Michelle’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Boston Suburbs – Billerica, MA – Meet ROSE, formerly known as Diamond, a very affectionate and playful 10 year old Pit Bull/Lab Mix who is 60 lbs. of love.

Rose once belonged to a great family, who sadly, were evicted and Rose found herself homeless and surrendered to a city shelter. A loving foster home stepped up for her, but it is not the right home for Rose, as she and the resident dogs do not get along and we are avidly seeking a new home for this special girl.

Here is what Rose’s foster mom tells us about her:

“Rose likes to give TONS of kisses and just wants to be your best friend. She is dog selective, and would prefer to be your one and only girl. Rose is very smart and likes to be right by your side, whether it be jogging, swimming, pulling weeds from the garden, or watching TV.

Rose ADORES KIDS, and gets so very excited to see the little boy in her foster home get up in the morning and begin the day with activities. Whatever the agenda, Rose thinks it’s a great idea. We’re going for a ride? Great idea! We’re going to take a nap? Great idea!

This is a girl who will connect with your heart and soul and really be your very best friend. Please give Rose a chance to have a family of her own to love!”

Rose is up to date on shots and microchipped, housebroken and trained. Rose has a sponsor who is willing to cover her adoption fee and the first three months of food and a wellness vet visit too!

Your chance to make the world a better, brighter place is calling – have you hugged a senior dog today?

For additional photos, please visit Rose’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Barko was rescued on 1/24/17 from the city shelter where he was a scared little boy. Not anymore! Stay tuned for more info on Barko!

Meet Carmine and you’ll say “all mine”. He’s the cutest little man with an orange brindle coat that feels like velvet. There are ripples of wrinkles that gather on his forehead when he looks at you with that quizzical look as he cocks his head to the side. Your heart melts. He has the calmness of an adult indoors but runs exuberantly outside like the streamlined athlete he is. Being young and athletic he would be that perfect running partner that never calls to cancel. Be on your toes! He’s on the ready and has a zest for life that’s contagious. And oh so affectionate — of course, he’s a pit. He has the face and the eyes of a Rhodesian Ridgeback along with the breed’s confidence and loyalty to those who love and care for him.

He is bright and curious, picking up leash manners in a day and commands associated with walking like a fine young gentleman. He is very strong, weighs 60 pounds and only one year of age so it’s imperative that these manners are reinforced. He is perfectly house trained, neutered and ready to be “all yours” — your friend, protector and companion for life.

Shelter Notes: Handsome Carmine came to us on Thanksgiving Day, brought by two policemen who had only good things to say about him. What a gorgeous dog, dressed in a shiny tiger brindle coat wrapping a well built body softened by attractive almond shaped eyes. Carmine was friendly then, accepting caresses and even a treat. He has remained the same, two days after our first meeting.

For additional photos, please visit Carmine’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Spirit~38 lb, 2 y.o. Pocket Pittie! Needs Forever Home!

Union City, NJ

Hi everyone! Meet SPIRIT~ and adorable little 38 pound sweetie who was recently rescued from Death Row at the Brooklyn ACC!

She has arrived safely to her foster home and is settling in nicely! Here is what her foster mom has to say about her~

She is very kind and super loving. She has a nice balance of energy, she loves to play fetch, but also likes to lounge around the house too! She is very well housebroken and well mannered when left alone (all my shoes are untouched!) She is tidy with her food bowl 🙂

Spirit needs leash work, especially when she is around other dogs. She isn’t aggressive, but she can become excitable. With time and training (which of course EVERY dog needs!) this little girl will continue to blossom into a very wonderful little companion. She is so happy around everyone she meets! When she is out on the street, everyone wants to greet her!

Spirit would love to meet you today!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Hercules, a fitting name for such a strapping boy as myself, but to be honest, I am nothing like the legendary hero! I am a pretty laid back guy. Rather than go out and slay beasts, I would much rather cuddle up next to you on a soft sofa and cuddle up! I do have an adventuresome side to me though! I’ll be a great hiking or running buddy, I don’t mind going out for a quick jaunt in the rain to take care of business, and hey- I like hanging around with kids, too!

I used to live in the city, where I lived with pet owners who had personal problems. They think THEY had problems. I REALLY had problems once I got sick… That almost got me killed.

Fortunately a nice lady saw my plight and agreed to take me in for a spell until I could find a forever home! Once a city slicker, now I am enjoying the sunshine and fresh air life in the suburbs has to offer.

I’m flexible though! City, suburbs, or country, I don’t care, I’d be happy just about anywhere there is someone to snuggle up with on a cozy couch and watch TV ( I LOVE TV!!) Oh- and of course, I love all people, big and small- I will prove it by giving you lots of my wet, schmooshy kisses

My foster mom says I am very polite, mild mannered, calm and gentle, and I am well behaved when home alone. I’m told those are good things for a guy like me to be. I know it isn’t nice to jump on people, and I definitely know it isn’t nice to go potty inside the house, I always go outside! I don’t care much for the company of other dogs or cats, I prefer to be an only four-legged family member, but I might do ok with another well-mannered dog as long as we are introduced properly.

My foster mom also calls me “perfection” and absolutely beautiful in my striking grey coat. Just one look, and you will fall hard for me! I am really ready to go on my next life-long adventure, will it be with you?
Please ask about me today!

Ossining, NY Hi Everybody! It’s good to meet you! My name is Max, and I’m a 4 year old, 60 lb american staffie mix. I once lived with a family with two adults, a teenager and a 9 year old. I was a good family dog, played gently with the kids, and never met a stranger I didn’t like. Unfortunately, a member of my family started having allergies, and they didn’t find me a new home. Instead, I was surrendered to the Brooklyn ACC where I was almost killed, despite acing my behavior evaluation! Luckily, a kind woman from Massachusetts saw what a great boy I was, and knew I had definite rock-star family dog potential, and she saved me from my doom! If you ask my foster family, they will tell you that I love being with other people! I like everyone I meet, and can we just say, the feeling is mutual! I’m not a fan of being alone, but I am well-behaved if you need to be away. Not only do I like all people, I have met other dogs and I am very respectful of them (I’m not sure how I would do around cats, since I haven’t met any yet!). I don’t get on furniture unless I am invited up (how’s that for a gentleman?). I’m pretty active too! I love playing with balls, Frisbee’s, anything you can toss around, I will be there to join in the fun! I know how to be gentle when I play with tug toys too! I promise not to bite your hand! While I do love the toys, I know it is polite to share, so I don’t hog them. Speaking of sharing, I don’t mind sharing treats with other dogs, might I add that I do take my treats oh so gently. I do have a grrreeeaat appetite- and will eat just about anything you give me (even my veggies!). I do suffer from skin allergies, so my foster family is trying different foods to see what works best for me. As you can see, I am a pretty cool, laid back guy and will be thrilled to have a forever family of my own. Will that be with you? I think whomever decides to take me in will be pretty lucky to have such a nice guy like me in their lives! Please ask about me today! You will be glad you did.

Max is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped!

Mountainville, NY       Silk is a splendid girl who exudes sweetness, sophistication, and plenty of spunk! Thanks to a wonderful foster family, this very special girl was given a second chance at life after her owner became too sick to care for her (and she and her housemate both found themselves on the at risk list at the NYC ACC).
At the shelter, Silk became a fast favorite of staff and volunteers as she was all about the snuggles and cuddles! Read what a volunteer had to say of her:

“Silk is affectionate to the extreme. As we walked, she would whimper and jump up to be petted. It was quirky, yet endearing. Once I started petting her she would sit right down. She begged for constant petting during the whole walk. She’s most definitely a “people-dog!”
Not only is she a people dog, but she lived in harmony with her pit mix housemate, with whom she enjoyed rough and rowdy play and doggie cuddles. Silk has been around children of all ages, and loves playing with them, however, she can be exuberant and may unintentionally knock over a smaller child.

Silk LOVES toys, hey, who doesn’t? She is a fan of tennis balls, and if she can find one, appreciates a good stick she can carry around and gnaw upon. She is overall well-mannered on leash (unless she sees someone she really wants to meet!) and she loves to explore. She doesn’t guard her things, and takes treats very gently. Silk is house-trained and crate-trained!
Silk would love to have a playful, friendly canine partner, as we sense she misses her former housemate, and the current resident dogs with whom she is staying don’t appreciate her rambunctious style of play.
Silk is a svelte 60 pounds and approximately 14 months young. She is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccinations.
For additional photos, please visit Silk’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Ivy has her own website! https://sites.google.com/site/findivysforeverhome/home To meet her, please contact AmsterDog and we will put you in touch with her awesome foster mom. <3

My name is Ivy, like Ivy League because I am basically the Harvard of dogs! All I need is someone to be smart enough to see a honey bunny like me and be my forever family! My foster mama is a big fan of mine and wants you to know that “Ivy is a prize! I was a little nervous meeting her for the first time but boy was I surprised with how amazing she is. She entered the house with curiosity but was no fuss.

It’s clear she is a well-mannered girl! I knew when I saw her posting about how she lived happily with children, but her family moved to a place that could not take her, so they decided to drop her off at a high kill shelter. I knew that I had to do something to save this sweet girl. I had no idea how sweet she would be! She is affectionate, enjoys being close to people, walks well on a leash and doesn’t seem to be bothered by much at all!” Talk about a good recommendation!

What my awesome foster mama said is very true! I love being with people, don’t mind other dogs or animals when I see them on the street, am well behaved and basically awesome! Nothing can make a person happier than having a dog and think making me part of your forever family would make you jump for joy. And me too! Please ask about me today!

Ivy is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped!

PEBBLES, Death Row Survivor, awaits surgery

Beautiful Sweet PEBBLES is safe and sound in her new foster home where she awaits surgery for the mass on her leg, which we are hoping will be this Friday. In the meantime, she is soaking up all the TLC she is getting from awesome foster mama Sally.

We are forever grateful to her and to all those who pledged for her much needed surgery. Pebbles is a throw away mama, and when she has her mass removed, she will also be spayed, so she will never be used for breeding again. To donate to her ongoing medical care, please go to www.amsterdog.org. Any amount is appreciated!

Will keep you posted on our sweet girl Pebbs!

A volunteer writes:

Pebbles isn’t just another pretty face. She’s a gorgeous, slightly chunky mama who seems to have been fed with love. Showing off great leash manners, she’s a quiet girl who took care of her big business the moment we were out the door, but waited to find some dirt in which to pee. How cute are her potty habits?!

She’s soft, gentle and easy to be with, but a bit distracted as she figures out her new surroundings. Pebbles ignored other dogs we passed, and showed no reaction to barking dogs. We took a water break in the park, Pebbles gently lapping up some water from a bowl. We snuggled for a bit before we both got too hot for close contact.

Off leash in the yard, Pebbles wagged her tail gently as other dogs passed, but in her first group play session, she was a bit nervous. She seems to have had a home in which she was loved, and is now looking for a new person or family to take care of. Past the crazy puppy stage, she’s at that perfect age where love, walks, and easy play are what will make her a happy girl. Come meet her today.

Another volunteer writes:

Even if she didn’t have the world’s most adorable face, I’d still be head-over-heels for this sweet girl because of her beautiful, peaceful, radiant soul. Just look into her eyes and you can see it for yourself…

Pebbles is 100 percent pure GOOD DOG.

I can’t think of a better companion for spending warm summer days lazing in the shade or cold winter nights nestled in each others’ arms. She’s so loving, so obedient and attentive. And talk about gentle!

Though a little shy at first, Pebbles warms up very quickly and is beyond thrilled to respond to a ‘come’ command by hopping two petite paws onto my lap for cuddles and kisses. She enjoys chasing a tennis ball but prefers to have me fetch it back for her, and her mouth is so soft that she never even really holds onto her toys, and takes treats from my hand with the lightest possible touch.

Family pets simply don’t come any more wonderful than this lovable chunky monkey.

In a calm, dog-savvy home, she’s going to shine brightly for many happy years to come. Pebbles is still waiting, but why are you? Scoop her up and take home a lifetime supply of snuggles today!!!

Manchester, NH – Sweet white/brindle, 45lb. Kandahar loves everyone, fur lined or not!

She was recently rescued from the euthanasia list from NYCACC, thanks to a wonderful family who offered up their home to her. She is a VERY HAPPY girl with a lot of energy, of course, since she is still just a baby at only 10 months.

She loves loves cats, kids and other dogs!

Her foster parents report that she is doing well in a crate, she quiets right down and enjoys her toys and chews. She is currently working on her leash manners, but she is very smart and learns quickly.

This sweetie has so much spunk, energy and spirit and will be the perfect loving companion for just about any family!

Kandahar is spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccines.

Bristol, PA

“Hi, I’m Coast! I am a 2 year old petite, lady-like and dainty pit mix (so I’m told), that weighs about 55 lbs. My foster family says I appear to be mixed with Dalmatian since my pattern of black spots and white fur is so prominent. Or, at least I *look* more like a Dalmatian, they say.

I’m not the type to boast as I’m typically very quiet and humble, but I’m told that I’m a little doll and the *perfect* family pet. I think that’s because I’m house-trained, crate trained, I have good manners (I know – and respond – to commands such as sit, down, come, stay), I walk gently on the leash, I sit like a lady in the car, I hardly ever bark, and most of all, I LOVE other dogs, and kids, too!

My foster parents say they will be heartbroken to see me go to my forever home, only because they say I’m perfect in every way, but it’s the only way they can continue to foster and save other nycacc survivors like me.

Right now, I’m sharing attention-time and yard-time with 4 other dogs here. I’m very grateful and appreciative to be safe here, but I really would like to get settled into the forever home that I know must be waiting for me for somewhere…. will you be my forever family? I promise, I’ll be the most well-behaved pet you’ve ever had and I won’t let you down! I am spayed, heart worm tested, have all my shots and I am microchipped too!

Thank you for considering me!”

Love,
Coast ♥

Hello, my name is Bingo! At first it was Bingo-no-stopit, but I guess my foster people thought that was too long as after a few weeks they shortened it to just “Bingo.” I love my name; it means I am a dog with a future and not just a problem to get rid of. Plus it has lots of spring in it, just like me!

Life is good with my foster family; I’ve never had so much food and human touch, and I get to sleep with my people, which is the best. But I know my true-love person is looking for me and I can’t wait till we meet. Here I have to share my people with three other dogs and three of those creatures they call “cats.” Somehow they don’t realize that those “cats” are dangerous vermin that need to be chased far away. Every time I try to take care of the problem I end up back in my crate, which makes me sad. I’ve learned so much since coming here. I know “sit,” “down,” “come,” “stay,” leave,” “wait” and I’m even beginning to understand “heel.” But I just cannot control myself around those fluffy vermin. I hope my true-love person finds me soon as I’m really afraid of going somewhere called “boarding.” My foster mom tells me that the worst is past and the best is yet to come. Should I believe her?

Bingo is a fifteen month old pit bull cross whose gorgeous copper coat has faint chocolate brindles running through it. His golden almond eyes have seen the worst from human beings, yet they are still filled with love and trust. A few small scars on his face are the only visible signs of his past sufferings, and he looks ahead with hope to a new life with his own special person. That person will be patient and kind, with lots of time, as Bingo has been starved of human contact throughout his young life. His greatest joy is to curl up as close to his human as he can, to make up for all those long months of abuse and neglect. He loves tasks and rewards, and he is quickly learning basic obedience. Leash training is the next big challenge, but Amsterdog will sponsor a trainer for the lucky person who brings Bingo home. Please don’t let his fate be a boarding kennel, where loneliness and despair will once again engulf him! He has come so far in just two months, and the sky is really the limit for this athletic, eager boy. Bingo is neutered, up to date with his shots, and microchipped.

Visit Bingo on Facebook for additional photos

To meet Bingo, please contact us. Thanks for caring about a dog in need!

Bristol, PA

“My name is Rocky and I am an 8 y/o neutered senior that weighs 75 lbs.

I was lucky to survive the nycacc not once, but twice! First I was adopted from there 5 years ago, but then my family of adults and teenagers could no longer keep me and brought my back there again 🙁

Thanks to AmsterDog, I was rescued and am now in foster with a family in PA. But, my foster family already has 2 dogs and 2 more also being fostered from the nycacc. This means I have to take turns with 4 other dogs to have outside time in the yard or on walks, and time to spend being around my foster family. Since I am most content to just ‘be’ in the presence of humans, I am sad that I have to spend so much time in my crate.

I am a good boy and have a lot going for me. I am housetrained (of course!), I walk excellent on the leash (no pulling), and I know a ton of commands including sit, stay, come, wait, down, leave it, and take it. I do not jump up on people unless invited; I wait for direction from my humans.

I am not the type of rambunctious pup that will slobber all over you; instead, I am mature and reserved. I will give hugs and the occasional kiss when invited, but otherwise I prefer to just be sitting at your feet or in nearby proximity to you. Wherever you go, I like to be nearby and this makes me the perfect companion dog! I enjoy my stuffed toys and bones, but the thing I enjoy most in life – above all else – is just being able to be in the presence of my humans. That is when I am most content.

I am quiet when outside in the yard or on walks – I don’t bark at passersby or other dogs. I tolerate other dogs okay, but prefer the company of humans since that’s what I was accustomed to being the only dog in my previous family. My foster family also has a cat and since I’ve never really had interaction with cats, I am very curious about them and that makes me want to chase them.

I have been told I am a handsome dog with my nice thick coat and regal looking face. Except of course for my one unique and endearing trait that sets me apart from the others – I have one ear that stays up and one that stays down!

I am very grateful to my foster family for giving me a place to stay, but I really need to be in a home without all of the commotion of so many other dogs coming and going. Won’t you please consider being my forever family and giving me a home where I can spend my senior years without having to worry about ending up at the shelter again? In exchange, I promise you love, loyalty, good behavior, protection, and most of all – companionship – since being in the company of humans is truly what I love more than anything else. Thank you for taking the time to read my bio and considering me for adoption!”

Love, Rocky ♥

Lola~Lovely Pittie Looking for a Home!

Blairstown, New Jersey

Hola, my name is Lola and I’d like to get to know ya!

I am a 5 year old playful pit-bull mix! I listen very well and sit when you tell me, I also give paw, and I can lay when you tell me too! I am crate trained and pee and poop outside….did I tell you I like it out side, it’s fun and there are so many smells!

I am from the city, and now live in the country. I can adapt anywhere as long as you love me!

I like to cuddle and curl up right next to you…I like other dogs and can curl up with them too!!! They are fun to play tag with!

I am very good but sometimes I get too excited I don’t know my boundaries. I might knock into you but it’s only to let you know I am comfortable with you!

I’m pretty popular, most people like me or love me, cause I’m cute and I like just about everyone.

I love squeaky toys and chew bones and all you have to say is “drop it” and it’s yours I just hope you throw it for me or give it back but sometimes I forget all about it….squirrel!!!!

Oh sorry, I also love walks and runs…I love my belly rubbed too! I’ll even flip right over to show it to you.

No one really knows my story…I know I had puppies at least once and I was somehow sent to this place that was going to kill me… Did I mention I was abused so if you raise your hand I quiver but I will still love you and kiss you no matter what! ….Back to my story, I was about to be killed and then these 2 people came to Brooklyn with treats and a new collar and leash for me! I gave them kisses as soon as I saw them cause I knew they saved me.

I was a little sick with kennel cough but they helped me get better and now I am ready for my new home!

Oh yeah, I was also spayed and I got some type of chip in me so you can find me if anything should happen but I’m a pretty good listener so hopefully I’ll come right back!!! I also got a lot of shots, my humans say I’m up to date….whatever that means.

So, if you’re out there, and you’re looking for a dog like me…come get me!  I’m ready with hugs and lots of kisses!!!!

New York City, NY

Hi everybody! I am Miss Cutie Pie Robin! I am 44 lbs and about 4 years young with stunning good looks! So it’s hard to understand how I wound up on the streets of Brooklyn, and then horror of horrors, ended up in the shelter where I caught a cold, and they wanted to kill me because of it! I have had a litter of puppies, but I don’t know what happened to them. I sometimes feel pretty sad that they were taken from me! I am going to go have a surgery so that I never have to go through that pain again!

My foster parents tell me that I am THE BEST most snuggly, sweet and gentle dog that either of them have ever met. I’m better behaved than both of their little dogs, even. One of their dogs tried to attack me, and I had to defend myself. Now we have to be separated because the other dog doesn’t like me. I do get along and like to snuggle with their little male dog- we get along just fine! My foster family thinks I would be ok in a home either as a solo dog or with low key male dog.

I am really a good listener and take correction well, and I love to make my people happy! I know my basic commands, sit, stay, come, drop it and I am learning how to give paw!

I love to be outside and to explore and run around, staying close to my people! I must admit however that I am not thrilled about putting my paws in cold wet mud…because I’m a lady, obviously… I can be a bit dainty at times and get chilly, so I like to wear warm outerwear when the temperatures get cooler. My foster mom got me a bright orange jacket with fleece, not to brag, but DANG I look good!

At home, I am a lazy couch potato and I love being under blankets and on your lap/chest/face. I won’t jump up on furniture unless I am invited, but if you let me, you will have made my entire day!! I will gladly take a bone when offered, although truth be told, it is more fun to try and find hiding places in the house where I can leave it! If you find it though, I have to search out for another hiding place… I am very gentle when treats are given and I promise not to bite your hand when I take it from you.

I am a very good girl in the car, I love to run errands with my foster family, I am fine when I am home alone, no crates needed for me, thank you very much! I don’t chew on furniture or your belongings. If you want to leave the tv on while you are away, I won’t complain!

While I do love people of all ages, I prefer to be solo pet in the home!!

If you want me to be your girl, I promise I will love you and smother you with affection and gratitude all the days of my life! PLEASE inquire about me today!

For additional photos, please visit Robin’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Hey Humans!

Hope things are good but you might ask how make them awesome by making me your number one snuggle buddy for life! My name is Raven and I am a lady who is looking for a forever family to give all my adorableness to! I am well trained, love everyone from little kids to big adults, cuddle like a champ, and will defend you from that evil beast: The Vacuum.

My mama basically wrote a book about how great I am and it’s good stuff!

“Raven loves to give kisses and she and my 3 year old grandson are a hoot to watch with how they love each other. In fact whenever she gets extra happy and likes to play and you think she’s had enough, I just tell her so and she chills out. She is the best cuddle buddy at night and will curl up beside you or even rest her head on you and it is the sweetest thing and melts your heart. I’ve taught her to walk well on a leash (We prefer the right side) and she is pulling less than she was. She really learns fast and does the most adorable thing by walking around with her leash in her mouth to hold it for you. Raven is a terrific companion and great car buddy.

Oh, one thing that makes her extra amazing is that she is a comedian! She does this thing that is too cute is when the vacuum is on. She barks at it but not in a mean way, like she’s almost telling it to back off like she is defending you. I have to turn my head so she doesn’t see me laughing. Also she barks at herself in the mirror sometimes. Again letting anyone know that she’s looking out for you. It cracks me up.”

I am a really good girl, but it’s true, I think I’m a real hoot and love to entertain. The sad thing is, my mama is very sick. So much so that she isn’t going to be able to take care of me soon. It’s made her cry and cry, she’s such an awesome lady. She doesn’t want me to go, but she wants me to have a good home and be taken care of, the way she cannot do.

Luckily the cool folks at the rescue group are helping me find my new forever home. So we are looking for someone to give me love and funnies too. And really yummy food like buffalo chews! I hope that’s you! Trust me, a good laugh and Raven snuggles are the secret ingredient for a happy life!

By the way, I am spayed, up to date on shots, microchipped and very healthy!

For additional photos, please visit Raven’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

MARLON BRANDO (aka Cain), the DON of Doggie Love!

Hello Humans,

My name is Marlon Brando (fka Cain) and I’m so cute that I’m gonna make you an offer you can’t refuse: making me part of your forever home. And unlike the human character Marlon Brando played in the Godfather, all it takes is my big grin and bigger heart to be convinced! I am a 72 lb. 4 year old American Pitbull terrier/ Vizla mix who is already neutered, up to date on shots, chipped and getting high honors in training school!

My foster dad, (who happens to be a Trainer!) loves me and wants you to know how great I am.

“He would be a GREAT companion for a family (probably kids that are a little older). He is highly social with humans, including children. He is a really fun dog and after our hours of training and learning on the leash he goes on pack walks and is such a social guy. Brando is going to make an excellent family dog as he is very smart and can easily be instructed and redirected. He’s learned so much already!”

Hey, I’m not named after the greatest actor of all time for nothing– I’m a great guy! I’m so happy the rescue group pulled me from the shelter and that I am now on my way to a happy home. All this training and listening has really paid off because even though I’m handsome as a movie star and sweet as a cannoli, I was surrendered for no good reason.

My owner even had great things to say about me as did the shelter. “He is friendly, ‘outgoing, energetic and sweet. He is cool with you taking toys and food from him, has showed no signs of aggression, lived well with children of all ages and even a cat! He is learning to not get so excited with other dogs but he is just learning to play.”

I’m truly the Don of Doggie Love and cuddles. Every house needs that, so come visit me today! You don’t have to kiss the ring but you will get some doggie kisses!

Love, Marlon Brando

Trumansburg, NY – JAXON~ 1.5 y.o. great dane/pit mix, stunning, sleek and AVAILABLE

Trumansburg, NY

Hi, Jaxon here. I’m young, handsome and athletic, as you can see from my photos. I’m told I’m a mix between a Great Dane and a pit bill. Someone said they were allergic to me, so I ended up at a kill shelter. Luckily I was rescued on my last day and sent to a foster home in the country. Being a city dog, the sights, sounds and smells were a little strange. But I got used to everything pretty quickly.

My foster mom says I am an amazing, loving dog with loads of potential (she had to help me spell that last word.) I bond quickly, and I’m very treat- and attention-motivated. I already know sit, high five and drop it, and I’m working very hard on stay and come. I am crate trained and go in easily, and I can entertain myself with a Nylabone. I don’t guard my bone or my food. I am also great riding in a car, and I love people. I know my name and answer to it.

I am very playful and exuberant and can do some crazy stunts with a tennis ball. I think I might have been a soccer player in a previous life.

Since I’m young, I do have some stuff to work on. I get excited outside and can pull on the leash. I can really pull if I see another dog or a small animal. I don’t think anyone taught me about other doggies when I was young, so I could use some help in this department. I’m not mean, I’m just very, very inquisitive. I’m working on these things every day because I want to get a great home!

I would probably do best in a place without any kitties, and with slow and proper introduction might do well with a nice, balanced canine friend. But I’d be really glad to be your one and only. I lived with a child before and would be a nice companion for older kids or teenagers. I think I’d like a place with a yard so I can do my tennis ball tricks and run around.

So, if you’re looking for a goofy stud muffin who wants to please and will love you unconditionally, apply to be my hero.

Hopewell Junction, NY

“Hi, I’m Nico! I am one handsome dude who literally gets stopped in public with cries of ‘That’s Petey the Dog from the Little Rascals!’

Well, my foster Mom thinks I look like the Phantom of the Opera, with my beautiful white head, covered strategically with black over my eye, like a mask…She also says I look like the Piggy she always wanted, with my piggy ears and pink nose and ears! (I also tend to grunt like a piggy when I’m happy). She also says I look like a black and white frog, the way that I like to stretch. She tells everyone that I remind her of a little boy lying on the floor, playing with his toys.

My foster parents say I’m a big ol’ lover boy, who will curl up in your lap like I’m a 10lb. Chihuahua!

I prefer to be in my crate when no one is home, because it makes me feel safe and secure. I sleep and eat in my crate and I even allowed them to teach me a SIT-STAY, for food….I wait until I am released with ‘NICO FREE!’. I don’t mean to brag, but I’m also excellent on house-training – no accidents for me!

I am very smart and I know my commands, such as DOWN, LEAVE IT!, SIT, STAY & GIVE PAW (both paws!). I give kisses when asked and I’m working on my listening skills, too! All I truly need is someone to show me the ropes and be patient and loving in teaching me more manners to become the gentleman that I am destined to be.

I walk great on my leash and if I pull, it’s only because I’m so excited to explore! I enjoy going on neighborhood walks with my foster family and foster-sister, Meeka! I really looove going for rides in the car! I just plop down on the center console and watch all there is to see going by. I’ve been playing chuck-it and frisbee and learning to fetch and return things in exchange for treats…and I always take them gently!

I am a strong boy, so I’m told I would do best in a home with a submissive dog, capable of engaging in rough play and older, active children.

So, now I’m patiently waiting for my forever lap! If you’re looking for a new four-legged family member that is high-energy and a big ‘ol mush who is just so stinkin’ cute, then I’m your guy!”

Love,
Nico ♥

IN BOARDING! KANE urgently needs foster of adoptive home!

Glenside, PA: Golden Retriever/Chow Mix, 9yo, 69 lbs

Hey guys!

You know those awesome all-inclusive vacation packages that include everything? Well I’m the doggie version of that! Love, fun, smart, good manners and you’re new best friend.

My name is Kane and I am a big ball of beautiful doggie love. I’m a little bummed right now because I lived with a whole family of my own and even my previous owner says amazing things about me. “Kane is a gentle giant. He has lived with kids–including a newborn– and a cat and never has an accident.” My boarding place says “I’m great with other female dogs of other sizes and neutered males. He is sweet yet independent.”

I know it’s not good manners to brag but everyone is saying I’m such a great dog and guess what? I am. You should see me on a leash! I’ve got skills! But my owner was having something humans call “issues” and even though he loved me had to give me up. He knew I deserved a forever family that could take care of me and even though I miss them and he dropped me off at the shelter I know it means my real forever family is out there. And I bet you’re reading this right now saying “That’s me!”

So put on those things humans put on your feet, grab that thing that holds all those plastic cards you use to buy doggie treats and come get me now. I’ve got all the love and great doggie looks waiting for you! Please inquire about me today!

For additional photos, please visit Kane’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

JASON~1.5 y.o., 44 lb total lovebug!

Ashford, CT

Hey Everyone!
Glad to meet you, the name is Jason, and my foster mom tells me I am the cutest freckle faced red-head boy this side of the Mississippi! Not only am I handsome, but I am an all around good boy with a great disposition!

I was rescued from the NYC ACC kill list. I was brought in to the shelter because I was out on my own running the streets of NYC. I had a dislocated hip- and for that, they were going to kill me. Thankfully a kind woman wanted to help me out of my predicament, and got me to a new home. I got my hip fixed, went through weeks of physical therapy, and now I am all healed, and ready to move on to my forever home!

I am a really happy guy who loves everyone I meet! I’m great with kids, dogs, and YUP- even cats! I am polite on a leash, and love going on walks in the woods! I love to escort sticks along the way if you let me The bigger, the better! Zoomies in the backyard are lots of fun too, so I would love to find a new home with a fenced in backyard! I am also quite the lover- I love to snuggle with my favorite friends- 2- and 4-legged!

I’m not too high energy, and I am pretty easily redirected when I am doing something my foster mom doesn’t want me to do. I am crate trained and house trained. I am very close to perfect! My foster mom says the world is a better place because I am in it, and I couldn’t agree more!

Please inquire about adopting me today! I PROMISE you won’t be disappointed!

“Small and sleek, 33 pounds and under 2 feet tall, Zukie looks up with a smile. He has the calmness of a 5 year old and the sweetness that comes from enjoying kindness, good food, and regular jaunts outside.

Pine cones, branches, a stone wall – they’re all new to this guy from New York City. Bugs, birds, and leaves blowing in the wind surprise him, and he gives chase like a puppy would

It’s hard to believe only a week ago he was scheduled to be euthanized! Before his two-week stint in New York City’s shelter system, Zukie — fka Aster — and his skinny siblings were found abandoned in an apartment, left in crates in their own filth.

But wonderful volunteers saw how happy, sociable, and polite they were despite their abandonment and the chaotic shelter. They created 3 videos for Aster/Zukie. In one, he’s shy and fearful; in the next, he accepts treats and wears a scarf.

I’m so happy AmsterDog stepped up to save him and let me foster him. He’s a joy. When I met him, he was enjoying Zuke’s Jerky Treats with one of the transporters, and easily came to me, shy and respectful, in our Northampton parking lot meeting spot.

Happy but quiet, Zukie is a big dog personality in a compact dog body. It’s as if a Italian Greyhound, a Staffie, and a Labbie all merged and he got the best of all three. His coat is super short, easy to wash – low maintenance, but he’ll need a coat in the winter. He’s athletic yet happy to lie on the grass. I can imagine him on hikes and runs and then chilling on the couch watching TV. Basically whatever his humans are doing. He wants to be your companion.

As for training, Zukie is a quick study. He would be the star in a basic obedience class. He sits for food before hearing the command. He is learning to wait before going in and out of the gate, looking at me before proceeding. His eagerness can get the best of him, though, as he pulls initially on the leash and if something captures his attention. Off leash in a large fenced-in yard (1 acre), he is aware of my movements and follows if I move in a different direction. He can get absorbed in finding branches and sniffing, but comes running when called. All without treats!

Because Zukie is ‘quarantined’ until his cold and sneezing clears, he hasn’t met my dogs. In the volunteer notes and videos, though, they describe him as “very good in playgroup, very good with other dogs – boys and girls – and good with difficult dogs and less difficult dogs” as well as “tolerant of being mounted.”

So far, he loves Earthborn Holistic Grain Free Great Plains Feast kibble and Zuke’s Jerky Treats. He turns his nose up at wet food, but allows me to easily pill him. When going to bed, he cries and whines for 20-30 minutes but then naps nicely. Clearly, he’d rather spend time trotting beside me or bounding about in the backyard.

Zukie is located in Northfield, Massachusetts. He is microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and will be neutered soon

CHILI~Spice up your life with this 1.5 y.o., 80 lb stunner!

Leeds, NY

Hey future family!

Looking to spice up your life? Look no more because I’m Chili and I’m delicious and full of life!

As the saying goes, there’s more to love with me around. I’m 80 pounds of adorable, love, and loyalty mixed into one. Just ask my foster mama who says “He interacts and behaves well with all other human and dogs but think older kids and bigger and more playful dogs are better for him because he’s so playful, in a sweet way.

As fun as he is, he is very smart and loves to cuddle with his humans, hang out on the couch, relax and be together.”

I’m kind of like that popular jock in those 80’s movies who turns out to be sensitive and cool too. But I’ll tell you something not cool, being brought to the shelter even though my owner said I am a good boy, “who plays well, loves people, listens, is affectionate, hasn’t even had a problem with people, or anything. Basically, they were too busy for me and if you could imagine your favorite person saying that to you one day, that’s how I felt. The only thing I need to work on is pulling a little on a leash but didn’t have a human teach me that and I’m already getting better. Luckily the awesome volunteers and my amazing rescue people were like those friends who tell you that you can do wayyyyyyyy better than “that guy”….and I realized they’re right!

So here I am, waiting for you, and I bet you’re wondering what’s missing from your day and it’s some Chili!!! So come meet me today. Everything is better with a dog, especially one like me!

Chili is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped!

Paisley- fka Pryncess- mature, regal lab mix,

Sutton, MA

Hello Future Forever Family,

If you’re looking to redecorate or change up the rug don’t bother, you just need me: Paisley (formerly known as Pryncess)! I’m beautiful, light up any room with my sweet smile and far more fun to play with than any time you’ll spend thinking about new curtains.

Besides being so darn cute my foster mama wants you to know how super I am:

“Paisley is such a sweet little lab mix girl. Full grown and knows all her commands but still has that lighthearted lab energy you just love. She is great with everyone she meets including kids and dogs! And she loves to play but also walks well on her leash, is house and crate trained. She’s cuddly and also loves to sleep with her toy and sometimes you’ll find her happy as can be rolling around with her toy. She is such a personality and would make the best addition to any family she’s so great!”

Not to toot my own horn but everything she said is true. Even the volunteers at the shelter couldn’t get enough of my kisses and cuddles and said I’m terrific when you need to take anything from me, food or toys even. I like to share. And even though I ended up at a scary place because my owner got really sick I made a doggie wish and was rescued so I could be your main squeeze.

Remember, paisley is always in fashion so come meet me today so we can both stay in style forever!

Xo,

Paisley

BISHOP! adorable 3 y.o., 60 lb pit x needs forever home!

Wallkill, NY

Hello future family!

Do you like love? A best buddy? Cuddles? Playing fetch? I bet you do and so do I, so why aren’t we hanging out together forever? My name is Bishop and yes, I am freaking adorable. And if you think you’re smitten with my cuteness, just imagine how you would feel about my kisses and cuddles.

My foster mama says that “He is what I would call a cool dude. He can sleep in bed with me or alone. He is independent but will hang out with our other dog too. He enjoys playing in the sun, rolling around in the grass and LOVES belly rubs. He is a happy-go-lucky guy. On a nice day he will stay in my fenced in yard all day playing with a ball. ANY ball. He loves them! Tennis, soccer, volley, squeaky, you name it! He’s awesome!” A volunteer writes “Bishop seems to be soooooo housetrained. He loves to show off his excellent leash manners and his incredible shiny coat. He enjoys treats, sits and takes them softly. He clearly had some good care and training. As I started to pet him, he pressed his face into my hand softly. When we got back to the shelter he greeted another dog with a gentle wagging of his tail. DON’T miss the chance to meet this incredible dog. His unconditional love and faithfulness are so clear”

Can dogs blush? Because I think I am. While what these amazing humans said is all true I was scared at the shelter because I am very smart and know it’s not where doggies belong. Thankfully the nice people there let me know I shouldn’t be scared and then a foster hero swooped in and saved me. I’ve come a long way from being found as a stray and as much as I love a nice walk, I would prefer to be strolling with my family than alone and lost. I really want to make someone’s day and be their best bud. I hope that’s you and that you step on it, because I have a lot of love to give ASAP!

NAHLA~11 lb, 1.5 y.o terrier mix- affectionate cutie-pie!

Walkill, NY

Hi, I’m Nahla and my foster parents say that I’m a sweetheart! I have an under bite that they think is adorable!

I love to ride in cars but I am terrified of the windshield wipers!! Playing fetch is one of my favorite things to do and I love toys and balls. I love to chew on fingers (gently) but my foster mom is trying to break me of the habit by giving me lots of things to chew on. I am now 100% crate trained and sleep in my crate every night, all night, until my foster parents get up although I like to be in the same room with them.

I do have some separation anxiety and will bark and cry a lot when left alone although I am getting better. I love my Kong with a little peanut butter in it for a snack. My foster parents take me to work with them and I bark whenever a stranger comes into the office but warm up to people quickly.

I am housebroken but occasionally will have an accident if I’m not taken outside often enough. My prior owners didn’t take me out much so I wasn’t really trained too well but now I’m doing great! I still need to gain a little weight and I eat Purina puppy chow mixed with a little Blue Buffalo and a spoonful of wet food, which I love! When Kitty comes to see what I am eating I will yelp and air-snap at her but I don’t mind if people touch my food or my toys, just Kitty! Other than that, I don’t mind Kitty at all and sometimes we play together.

I walk great on a leash and enjoy my walks. I’m going camping for the first time and I’m sure I will love it and have spent time in the motor home getting ready for my trip! I hope you will consider adopting me and giving me my forever home!

MAX! A true gentleman~ 4 yo, 60 lbs, staffordshire mix, needs 4-ever home!

Marstons Mills, MA

Hi Everybody!

I love playing with balls, Frisbees, anything you can toss around, I will be there to join in the fun!

You will be glad you did!

Max is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped!

Ernesto: Sweet 2 y.o. 11 lb Yorkie

Shushan, NY

Hi! My names is Ernesto but you can call me Ernie. I have had one heck of a journey!!! I started out roaming the streets of the City and got a ticket for being a Vagrant … That landed me in NYC ACC as a stray. I was put through a bunch of examinations and I was scared and certainly didn’t want to be there, so I mostly hid in a corner and hoped no one would notice me. That put me at great risk and I was placed on the dreaded “To Be Destroyed” list! There had been others before me and I heard, through the Bark Vine, that I didn’t have much longer to live… Every Human that came my way I was scared of. Was this my time? I became more and more afraid. Then I heard that someone wanted me and with the help of many others I would be moving to the Country! Whatever that was?

See I am a very young little Boy. Maybe at the most 2 but I really can’t remember. My Foster Mom met me in Albany NY and brought me all kinds of treats, collars and even three crates. The nice Lady that took me for the long ride up to Albany let me listen to music and I was losing all my fears. So after a stop at the local tree, I piled into the car and rode all the way to Shushan in the front seat. When I got there, I met my new family members and they told me they would help show me the ropes. I now look at my collar and leash, as private time with my special Human. My Human thinks I may have known this all the time.

Nothing is better than a little belly rub and I love to give little kisses. I will snuggle with you on your couch and fall asleep in your arms. I sleep all night in my Sleeper Crate and don’t mind at all. I am really doing great with my house manners. My Foster Brothers told me that the Humans really rather you use the outdoors so I am! I have just found the toy box and love to carry around the chew toys but I will drop it in a minute for a cookie!!

My Humans say I have wonderful table manners. I don’t grab the cookie from your hand nor do I care if you need to pick up my bowl before I am done. My Foster Mom says I need to eat just my food but my Foster Dad slips me some from his snacks. I am a little skinny but we are working on that…

I am looking for a Forever Family, not sure what that is, but they tell me it is wonderful! My favorite things would be lots of snuggle time and I am not too particular whose lap it is. Car rides would be great too! I enjoy my afternoon nap but could easily follow you out for a little gardening.. Mostly I want to be with you and follow you were ever you go!

Can you find a place in your heart for me? I am really a sweet little Boy and ready to take that new adventure on.

Trumansburg, NY

Hello world, my name is Stormie and I am paws down one of the sweetest gals you will ever meet.

I used to have a family, and I lived with a little Yorkie and an 11-year-old, and I was well-behaved and happy. But then I got sick and instead of taking me for help, my family took me a place where they didn’t see my sweet spirit and only looked at my big tumor and decided I should be put to sleep. It was my last day, and I was so scared that no one would come and save me.

But, someone did!!I am so glad my friends at AmsterDog thought I was worth saving! They got me right out of the shelter and to a doggie doctor, and she is going to fix me right up. The nice doctor is going to perform something called an “operation” and remove the tumor that has really been cramping my style for a long time. Note: expenses for this operation will be covered.

Everyone at the doctor’s office and at my foster family’s home loves me, because I get along great with whoever I meet. I like big and small and even medium dogs. I am good with cats, and I even met some chickens and just said hello. I have perfect manners in the house and on the leash.

No one is sure why kind of doggie I am–a Boston terrier/Corgi? A Basset mix? Maybe a bull terrier and border collie? My foster mommy just tells me I’m special, and that’s good enough for me. She also said I weigh about 45 pounds and am around 7 years old.

I like treats, and I know how to sit politely and take them gently. I also like toys, and I play gently with them. My favorite so far is a rope toy, but I also had fun with a stuffed animal. I’m not big into chew bones, but I love, love, love to give hugs and kisses!

To be honest, I’m not really looking forward to my “operation” but I am looking forward to getting better and finding a family who won’t give up on me, and that will love me forever.

Stormie is up to date on all vaccines, spayed and microchipped.

Christina: Rockstar-Rated 4 y.o., 67 lb Pit Needs Forever Home!

Purchase, NY

Christina needs a FOREVER home and you’d be crazy not to adopt her: She’s good with kids, plays well with others, ignores unknown dogs on the street, and doesn’t pull on the leash!

Only 4 years old, she’s way past the wild puppy phase, but is healthy with plenty of years to be a great family member. Also housebroken, she is well behaved when left at home alone. She enjoys balls and toys and plays fetch, chase, and tug. Off leash with other dogs, Christina is sociable and playful. “Zoomies” are one of her specialities.

A favorite of the behavior team at NYC’s Manhattan Animal Care Center (MACC), Christina was recommended as a family pet. She lived with (and sometimes slept with) a 6 year old and was gentle, exuberant, relaxed and playful with the child, as well as the adults in the home.

She also had exposure to a 2 year old. The family had to surrender her because of a significant change in their living situation (“inadequate facilities”), but their care and love made Christina really shine at MACC. Because the environment is so chaotic at MACC, many surrendered dogs go through a tough adjustment losing their family but while sad, Christina adapted well and quickly became a favorite of the volunteers too.

One volunteer summed up her lovely qualities so well: “Quiet and calm, she loved laid her head in my lap for some petting, savoring the moment giving into it, and then washing my face with some sweet kisses. Lively in play with both people and other dogs, soft and easy in quiet time, Christina is the perfect combination of grace, elegance, fun, beauty and love.”

They note that she takes treats gently and has great manners and put together two videos of Christina while she was there:

(great shots of her taking treats and playing)

(this is her shortly after arrival at MACC, sweet and mellow)

Petite yet 67 pounds, Christina has a Rubenesque shape, curvy and round like an “adorable seal.” Like most of us, she should probably shed a few pounds.

Christina has been with a foster family for 5 weeks in Purchase, NY and they confirm she is “peaceful and sweet” and “loves kids.”

She is up-to-date on vaccinations and is already spayed, and microchipped.

For additional photos, please visit Christina’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

New York 12590 – Tommy the Pom is a 7 year old 27 lb Pomeranian mix who is simply a delight! This ACC death row survivor has a beautiful luxurious coat and could be a Throwback Pom or a Pomeranian mixed with a medium sized smooth collie.

In any event, Tommy is a very handsome boy. Tommy is a gentleman and has a genteel manner. He walks calmly on a leash and likes going on slow country walks.

He would thrive in a home with older kids or no kids, and likes having one on one time with an adult who talks to him. He is very intelligent and likes to have things a certain way.

Tommy likes other dogs, loves being outside, and playing with his toys. Tommy is neutered. microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines. He is housebroken and knows his commands. Tommy is a good boy that will flourish in the right home.

For additional photos, please visit Tommy’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this special dog!

Montague, MA

Hey human friends!

I hope you all had a great weekend!! I sure did but it would be even better if I was with my forever family. My name is Max and I’m a little guy but have a big heart and love to celebrate national holidays. And after all the yummy food and fireworks this weekend I bet you know a dog really makes the party.

My foster mama said:

“Max loves belly rubs and being held like a baby. He will quietly chew on a bone while I’m doing my barn chores or gardening. Max seems to be house trained and loves to go outside. He loves to be with people and will fuss a fair amount if not. He’s an adorable dog who loves walks, goes for “zoomies” around the yard, and plopping down for bed. He likes to sleep in! Ha. He loves to go for car rides and go with me to the farmer’s market. Max’s perfect family is one where someone is around most of the day and likes regular walks. He’s a great little guy and fun to have around! Don’t miss out!”

All of that’s true! I can be unsure of strangers at first because I am a little guy but just need some reassurance. I seem to be ok with some cats and not others, but otherwise, I’m a rock star! I was pulled from the kill shelter and survived being given up for reasons that are pretty silly. Thankfully my beautiful rescue friends saved me. And all because my forever family, which might be you, is waiting for me.

Pets make the world go round so come and meet me. I’m as delicious as ice cream! Xoxoxoxo

East Islip, NY

How you doin’? Like my New York accent? No? Well maybe you can help me work on it on a nice walk or game of catch!

My name is City and just like the one I live in I am big and beautiful and have it all–except Broadway shows and I don’t know how to make pizza. But I am a star! Just ask my foster mom.

“City is a GREAT family pet, he is well mannered and calm. We took him to the vet and he saw a cat he didn’t even flinch. He knows “sit” and “paw” and very gentle with my 8 year old. He is a perfect gentleman and we don’t have a negative thing to say about him. He would be a wonderful addition to any family.” Talk about a rave review!

I’m 68 pounds of pure Pittie love with people (the little and big ones) and other doggies, well-behaved when I’m home alone, cool with humans taking my toys from me and fine with being brushed, bathed and am house broken. Known as a “staff favorite” at the shelter I know all my commands, LOVE walks and at first move fast (It’s the New Yorker in me) but stay close and happy to be outside. My name might be City but I love my fresh air.

I’ve clearly got a lot of fans but looking for my forever home to be a part of. Like Frank Sinatra sang, let’s “make a brand new start of it, in old New York” together and meet me today!

City is microchipped, up to date on all his vaccines, and will be neutered soon!

For additional photos, please visit City’s Facebook page or contact us for information or fill out an online application. And thanks for caring about this really special dog!

Stuyvesant, NY

“Hi… my name is Jamie! I am a 3 y/o, 55 lb. German Shepherd Pit Mix.

My foster family saved me from the nycacc and they think I am a very good boy – I am housebroken, I can sit when you tell me and I’m starting to learn other commands such as “give” and “stay/stop”.

I am also good in a crate but I’m so well behave in the home, I’m told I really don’t ‘need’ to be in one.

I love people. I can’t get enough affection and love. If you sit down, I’ll sit right next to you and snuggle up to you in hopes you will rub my head, and well, just everywhere. I will even roll on my back for tummy rubs. My foster Mom thinks it’s funny because I kick my leg when she tickles me.

I like to chase my tail and when you throw the ball or rope I will get it and bring it back for you to throw it again. I also like to play tug of war with the rope but I’m pretty careful to never pull too hard – I haven’t ever knocked down my 4 year old human foster sibling! Speaking of which – did I mention how much I like playing with kids? I’m mindful of how I grab my toys when playing with them.

I am pretty respectful and low key for a young boy. I don’t scarf my food down and I don’t bite or growl if you take things from me.

And I also love playing with other dogs! I can tell you that in the shelter the staff wrote that I was, ‘social, engaging in running play with males and females in a large group of dogs and respectful of dogs who are uncomfortable with interaction.’

I’m ready for my forever home now. As much as I love my foster people, I know they can’t keep me and I’m ready to have a family to call my own!

I promise to give you lots and lots of kisses and unconditional love.

Would you adopt me… please?”

Love, kissed, and tail wags,
Jamie

Brewster, NY – Remember Pico & Princess, the bonded pair who were losing their home because the guy who had taken them in off the streets of the Bronx was going into the hospital and could no longer care for them?

A good samaritan, upon learning their plight, took them to be spayed / neutered and up to date on shots and then partnered with AmsterDog to try to find them foster or forever homes.

Well the update is that Pico was very fortunate to find a loving forever home with a wonderful family in PA. But Princess, although lucky to find a temporary foster in Staten Island, hasn’t been so lucky as to find her forever family yet.

Here’s what she’d like you to know about her:

“Hi, I’m Princess! Even though I may have had a rough start in life, first on the streets of the Bronx, then being separated from my bonded mate, I still haven’t lost my joy or my faith in humanity.

My foster parents were never expecting or prepared to take me in but they didn’t want to see me end up at the nycacc when my caretaker became hospitalized so they have allowed me to come stay with them. They live in a small apartment and both of them work hard at their very demanding jobs so that means they aren’t able to be home often and so I’m often crated and home alone. I also don’t have any other dogs or children here for me to play with either.

I’m told I’m a sweet, loving, high energy dog. I’m obedient, I know my basic commands, am fully house-trained and crate-trained.

I really like other dogs that are submissive or neutral (non-Alpha). I’m told it’s possible I could go to a family with cats if they are patient and do proper introductions since I’ve never really had any interactions with cats other than the occasional stray I might have passed on the street when I lived in the city.

I am still young and energetic and can get excited and jumpy at times so a home without very small children would be best due to my size and weight of 70 lbs.

I’m very grateful to every one for keeping me out of the nycacc, but now I’m waiting to find out if there is a forever family out there that will show me what true love and commitment is. Could that be yours?

Thank you for reading my story and sharing with your friends and family!”

Love, kisses and tail wags,
Princess ♥

Please be my Forever Family!

ZEUS is a stunning 6 year old 127 lb. German Shepherd Dog who is a very loving boy looking for his country home. Zeus is clearly not a city dog and traffic noises make him nervous.

However, Zeus loves to go on long walks or hang out in a yard, whatever is on the agenda. He has very nice leash manners, loves to play ball, is housebroken and a good snuggler.

Zeus knows his commands and can sit and give paw. He is a people loving dog and would thrive in a home where he is the only dog. It’s not that he doesn’t like other dogs, they just make him nervous and he prefers being around people.

Zeus is neutered, up to date on his shots, and microchipped. We’d love to have you meet our gentle giant Zeus!

Oatmeal~1 y.o., 65 pound, hunky pit mix~ needs forever home!

Marstons Mills, MA; 1 year old

Hi! My name is Oatmeal. Why the name you ask? Because I am a big mush of a guy! I was brought in to the NYC ACC as a stray. While there, they tested my behavior and guess what? I ACED my evaluation! I got one of the top ratings a nice dog can get! That is why I was so shocked and dismayed to learn that I got placed on the dreaded “To Be Destroyed” list when I caught a cold! Lucky for me, a nice lady in Massachusetts decided that I was worth taking in for a while, until I could find a home with my forever person!

I’m just a young guy at only about a year old, and about 65 pounds. I am smart and am learning basic commands such as sit, stay and down.

My foster mom says I need to get better at my leash manners (I just get so excited to go on walks to see the world!) and being polite when I greet people (I love to jump up to give kisses, I guess that is not the way it’s supposed to be done!), but we are working on it every day. I walk nicely with my human friends when I am off leash and they say I am easily redirected. I also know to go potty outside 🙂

I’m always up for a car ride! Exploring the town is so much fun! I have a great time with my toys too- squeaky toys, frisbees, balls, kongs, you name it, I won’t turn any toy down! I have a blast to chasing balls and frisbees and playing keep away from my foster family.

I do like to hang out with my human friends, I’d rather be with them than anything else. I will snuggle in bed or on the sofa, but I will also stay on the floor if I must. I will never turn down a cookie if offered, and I will take it carefully from your hand. I don’t get upset if you take my food away while I am eating, either, even if it is a yummy home cooked meal! (I do LOVE the food!)

I must admit, I am a bit of a ladies’ man, but I would do ok in a home with most other dogs, male or female. I will do great in an active home that can get me plenty of exercise and mental stimulation as I have lots of energy! I would make a great hiking or running partner!

Please consider meeting me! I’m a REALLY nice boy and would so love to be with my forever family soon! Ask about me today at amsterdog@gmail.com!
