Why Adopt an Amsterdog?
AmsterDog is a foster-based rescue and does not have its own facility. We rely on people like you to open their hearts & homes to pets in need. Our fosters are spread throughout the northeast, and we partner with veterinary services and professional trainers all over.
AmsterDog has animals available for adoption that were previously rescued from urgent situations and have since resided in a foster home or boarding. This means that their behaviors and personalities are well known. Their caretakers can tell you their likes, dislikes, favorite treats, special scratch spots, and more!
AmsterDog is here to help! Whether you’re only beginning your browsing for a new best friend or just not quite sure which one is for you, talk to us. Text us, call us, write us an e-mail, or message us on social media: we will match you with the best fit for you. AmsterDog is more than happy to adopt our dogs out, but we do offer a foster-to-adopt option to make sure that both you and your new pet are truly a great fit, with many memories of love and companionship awaiting you both!
AmsterDog helps animals in many locations throughout the northeast - don’t be deterred if a dog isn’t being fostered locally. We provide transportation to approved adopters within a reasonable distance.

Chi Chi got the best present - being adopted in time for the holidays with her new family!
JERRY: Poor 10 month old Jerry found himself on the emergency placement list, at-risk for euthanasia in the chaotic & overcrowded city shelter. There was something about this young vibrant boy with the ear-resistible cuteness; social media followers and advocates shared him like crazy! And it worked - a wonderful foster named Vanessa applied to foster Jerry, swooping in to get him out of the shelter within hours of her application being approved. From the very first night, Vanessa reported what a sweet and well-behaved dog Jerry was being. We now have an approved adopter for Jerry and this very deserving dog will be in his new home just after the New Year with his new family. What a great way for Jerry to start 2025! Thank you everyone for caring & sharing Jerry to get him into a warm & cozy forever home!

December 2024 BEAR Update
Bear is still up for adoption!
Two days before Christmas 2023, young Bear was surrendered to the city shelter by the only family he had ever known. They reported that as a puppy, Bear had been injured when he was attacked by another dog, resulting in the amputation of this front right leg. Unfortunately, they were surrendering him for the same issue - Bear had the other resident dog’s bite marks all over his muzzle and back. Poor Bear was understandably terrified at the strange, chaotic shelter with so many other dogs barking all around him. And so, Bear was on the emergency placement list and at-risk for euthanasia. With hours to go, a foster thankfully stepped up to welcome Bear to safety! This angel, however, has a full stair case in her home, which Bear is having difficulty navigating downwards. So now, officially rescued, Bear is searching for his purrfect furever home! Can that be with you? Read more about Bear on his Petfinder!

Grimlock is transported out of the shelter and on his way to a new life filled with love!

The odds were stacked against senior XL bully Nobel, but this good boy is now in a cozy foster home.

Dobby & Kira
Thank you for joining us, Dobby, and Kira in the fight to save their lives! Jan/Feb 2024
Poor little Dobby was rescued 1/31/24 from the city shelter's emergency placement list with severe pneumonia and was transported directly to Mount Laurel Veterinary Hospital, where he received critical care. Sweet girl Kira suffered from pyometra, a severe and life-threatening infection of her uterus. She was stabilized at Ivy Pets Veterinarian and a few days later had a successful surgery to remove her uterus. Kira is healing well in her loving foster home. So well, in fact, that they have decided to officially adopt her! Congratulations, Kira and her new family!
Both treatments came at a high cost simultaneously - but AmsterDog did not hesitate when tender lives were on the line! With your help, we were able to get Dobby and Kira the critical veterinary care they both desperately needed. Thanks for caring about pets in need!
